Instrument & Automation Engineer - Operations Readiness Trion

About the Role:

This role will support the Trion Project Operations Readiness team by providing instrument and automation (I&A) engineering expertise as the project moves from the Execute to Operate Phase. During the Execute Phase of the project the role will be responsible to assist with testing, commissioning, and startup of the instrument control and safety system (ICSS) for the Trion floating production unit (FPU). The role will transition to become a local member of the engineering team supporting the Trion field after startup and into the Operate Phase.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Integrate with the Trion project engineering team to fully understand the instrumentation and controls design for the Trion FPU.
  2. Participate in testing, commissioning, and startup of the ICSS which is a Honeywell DCS system.
  3. Participate in selected factory acceptance tests (FAT) for packaged equipment to be installed on the Trion FPU.
  4. Work closely with the project lead delivering the remote operating center in Tampico. Participate in testing, commissioning, and startup to effectively take ownership going into the Operate Phase.
  5. Support integrity, maintenance, and regulatory personnel with development of plans to ensure compliance and maintain reliability of instrument and controls equipment.
  6. Develop process to manage software and programming changes in the Operate Phase.
  7. Develop full understanding of Trion project specifications and procedures related to facility instrumentation and control systems to adequately support daily operations post startup.
  8. Provide I&A engineering expertise to offshore operations team, local engineering team, and management during the Operate phase.
  9. Support Operational Technology (OT) and Digital team with interfacing integrated control system with connected Honeywell Advanced Applications, Aveva (OSI) Pi system, and PCN Infrastructure and equipment.
  10. Configuration of Honeywell Unisim based Operator Training System.

Strengths:

  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with both engineering and operations teams.
  • Ability to present technical information to engineering peers, offshore operations personnel, and upper management.
  • Ability to define and manage cost and schedule for areas of responsibility while delivering on technical objectives.
  • Ability to manage 3rd party contractors performing work in the I&A area.
  • Ability to interface in a global setting (across time zones).

Skills & Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in instrument and automation engineering in the oil and gas industry. Experience with upstream offshore oil and gas industry a plus. Experience with subsea wells, infrastructure, and associated controls a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering – preference to electrical.
  • Experience providing engineering support to operating assets.
  • Demonstrated project management capability.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with working on Honeywell DCS and Safety Systems, Experion PKS, Advanced Applications, Unisim.
  • Experience with working on interfacing protocols such as OPC, MODBUS TCP/IP, MQTT, CIP.
  • Understanding of process control network (PCN), firewalls, and virtualization.
