AstraZeneca is seeking a visionary leader for the role of Government Affairs Manager in the BBU sector (Cardiorenal, Respiratory, and Immunology). This key position will lead the Government Affairs and Public Policy functions, developing and implementing strategic initiatives aligned with our corporate and therapeutic priorities.

You will influence the political and socio-economic landscape by advancing AstraZeneca’s strategies. Your proactive engagement with external stakeholders will elevate AZ's profile and ensure strategic alignment within our Cross Functional Team (CFT).

This role involves managing corporate affairs and BBU domains, reporting to the Corporate Affairs Director. You will provide strategic insights to shape policy frameworks and identify opportunities for public policy advancement in areas such as innovation, health technology assessment, regulatory frameworks, and disease-specific initiatives supporting our therapy goals.

Your responsibilities include crafting and executing strategies to influence the business environment, engaging with trade associations, government officials, and public institutions. Collaboration with Regional and Global teams across Medical, Market Access, Compliance, Regulatory, Legal, and Commercial sectors is essential.

We seek an ideal candidate with strong leadership, strategic planning skills, and extensive pharmaceutical industry knowledge. A minimum of 5 years of experience in government engagement related to BBU or therapeutic areas, along with excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, is required.

This position involves both office-based and fieldwork interactions with civil society, public officials, and key stakeholders.

Accountabilities
  1. Strategic Policy Development: Lead and oversee policy strategies in cardiorenal, respiratory, and immunology areas to promote AstraZeneca’s agenda in alignment with therapeutic objectives across public, social, and private sectors.
  2. Collaborative Strategic Counsel: Provide guidance and build capabilities while collaborating with the CFT to develop and execute Government Affairs and policy initiatives, engaging external stakeholders as needed.
  3. Engagement & Alignment Management: Develop tools, materials, and guidance to ensure clear engagement and alignment on GA and policy matters with the CFT and agencies.
  4. Position Advancement: Develop and promote AstraZeneca’s GA-policy positions on key themes and therapeutic areas, ensuring proactive advocacy.
  5. Industry Representation: Engage in local trade and industry associations’ GA and policy groups to represent AstraZeneca effectively and contribute to policy development.
  6. Strategic Resource & Advisory Role: Support the Corporate Affairs/Government Affairs Director with counsel on key issues, and prepare briefs for senior leadership.
  7. Stakeholder Relationship Building: Foster relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, Decision Makers, Patient Advocacy Groups, public institutions, and government officials across all branches.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Political Science, Law, International Relations, Economics, Communications, or related fields.
  • Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry within Cardiorenal metabolic, respiratory, and immunology policy issues impacting the Mexican healthcare system.
  • At least 8 years of experience in government or public affairs, with 5+ years in the pharmaceutical industry and familiarity with the Mexican healthcare system.
  • Proven success in implementing government policy and advocacy initiatives.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
