Job summary

Parker Electromechanical in Mexico is seeking a Safety Automation Engineer with EHS support to design, implement, validate, and maintain automation and machine-safety systems. You will collaborate with EHS teams to strengthen workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk-reduction initiatives across manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, program, commission, and maintain automation systems for manufacturing equipment.
• Develop machine-safety control architectures using safety PLCs, safety relays, interlocks, and guarding systems.
• Program and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, robotics, motion-control, vision, and industrial-networking systems.
• Perform safety-function verification and validation, including testing of emergency stops and guards.
• Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control-panel documentation, safety requirement specifications, and test records.
• Support equipment commissioning, upgrades, modifications, and production launches with safety considered early.
• Establish preventive-maintenance and inspection requirements for safety-related control systems.
• Improve machine diagnostics, alarm management, and fault recovery.
• Partner with EHS to conduct risk assessments and implement risk-reduction measures.
• Assist in safety audits, investigations, and change-management activities.

Position Summary

The Safety Automation Engineer with EHS Support is responsible for designing, implementing, validating, and maintaining automation and machine-safety systems while partnering with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) teams to strengthen workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk-reduction initiatives. This role bridges controls engineering, functional safety, and EHS practices to ensure manufacturing equipment and processes operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, commission, and maintain automation systems for manufacturing equipment, production lines, and automated work cells.
• Develop and implement machine-safety control architectures using safety PLCs, safety relays, interlocks, emergency-stop circuits, safety light curtains, area scanners, two-hand controls, and guarding systems.
• Program and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, robotics, motion-control, vision, and industrial-networking systems.
• Perform safety-function verification and validation, including testing of emergency stops, guards, interlocks, safe torque off, and related protective measures.
• Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control-panel documentation, safety requirement specifications, cause-and-effect matrices, validation protocols, and test records.
• Support equipment commissioning, upgrades, modifications, and production launches while ensuring safety requirements are incorporated early in the design process.
• Establish preventive-maintenance and periodic-inspection requirements for safety-related control systems and safeguarding devices.
• Improve machine diagnostics, alarm management, and fault recovery to enhance safe uptime and maintenance response.
• Partner with EHS personnel to conduct machine and process risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement risk-reduction measures.
• Support compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards, including OSHA, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, ANSI B11, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508, and local regulatory requirements.
• Assist with investigations of incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and safety-system failures; contribute to root-cause analysis and corrective-action implementation.
• Support lockout/tagout program development and implementation, including equipment-specific energy-control procedures.
• Participate in safety audits, compliance assessments, ergonomic reviews, pre-startup safety reviews, and management-of-change activities.
• Assist in developing and delivering training for operators, maintenance personnel, engineers, and contractors on automation safety systems, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, and safe operating practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 4 - 6 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, machine safety, EHS engineering, or a manufacturing environment.
