Sr. Solutions Design Engineer

Amazon is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sr. Solutions Design Engineer. This individual will deep-dive and challenge current processes, equipment, and procedures in our European fulfillment network to develop creative and implementable process improvement initiatives. The role also involves designing and developing new and existing fulfillment center layouts.

A successful candidate will have a background in developing high-performance physical systems, strong technical problem-solving skills, excellent project management abilities, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced, often ambiguous environment. Amazon’s culture encourages innovation and ownership in solving complex problems. The Solutions Design Engineer should be a proactive self-starter capable of driving projects and coordinating with various teams and individuals across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Own the design and development of engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges, considering human/equipment interactions within the European fulfillment network.
  2. Lead and coordinate concept and design efforts for optimizing solutions across the Mexico & Brazil fulfillment networks, including equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations, and site layout.
  3. Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams to create innovative solutions.
  4. Manage multiple high-visibility projects simultaneously, effectively influencing and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Conduct post-implementation reviews of designs in partnership with Safety and Operations teams.
  6. Work with the Fulfillment Center start-up and launch teams to ensure thorough documentation of layouts, modules, SOPs, and change controls.
  7. Develop, document, and update design standards in collaboration with global design teams.
  8. Build strong relationships with key partners including Start-up, Launch, Worldwide Design, Procurement, IT, Loss Prevention, Facilities, Safety, Change Management, and EU Operations.
  9. Willingness to travel up to 50% for interactions with internal and external leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. 7+ years of experience managing multiple large projects.
  2. Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or related STEM field.
  3. Technical expertise in automated or non-automated material handling equipment.
  4. Experience in Logistics, Distribution, or Fulfillment processes.
  5. Fluency in English and Spanish.
  6. Master's degree in relevant fields preferred.
  7. Knowledge of Lean Management, Six Sigma, and other operations engineering tools.
  8. Language skills in Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, or Zulu are a plus.
