Sustaining Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform sustaining engineering work on existing production released designs. Use research techniques to analyze and validate design or theoretical concepts. Interact with senior-level professionals both internal and external to AE.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review existing production released designs to become the expert knowledge holder of functionality and performance using existing product documentation.
- Maintain broad technical knowledge of electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, including RF circuits, AC to DC converters, AC power factor correction, high power transistors and rectifiers, digital and analog loop stability, magnetic design, worst-case component analysis, digital hardware, firmware, RF test and measurement systems, and electrical/safety regulatory compliance.
- Diagnose issues related to design, field performance, reliability, and manufacturing test yields of existing products using formal investigation methods and recommend/implement corrective actions.
- Follow key engineering procedures including the ECO process, Copy Exact, and Product Development Process.
- Identify product and process limitations and opportunities for product improvement.
- Initiate and manage engineering changes through to completion using the ECO process.
- Plan and implement engineering activities using project management tools, based on input from engineering management and cross-functional teams.
- Provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians related to product-specific work.
- Design and analyze derivative products based on existing products/subsystems, ensuring they meet specifications, cost, schedule, and quality goals.
- Analyze manufacturing data using statistical methods to monitor performance.
- Respond to changing priorities based on inputs from various departments such as Product Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Support.
- Identify obsolete components, evaluate replacements, and redesign circuitry as needed to meet performance and functionality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to analyze large data sets using statistical tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab, Excel).
- Skill in reading and creating schematic diagrams using software like Altium or PCAD.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning tools such as SAP.
EXPERIENCE:
- Essential: Three to five years of related electronics experience.
- Desirable: Familiarity with ISO systems, strong knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies, and component lifecycle analysis tools (e.g., Part Miner, Parts Universe).
EDUCATION:
- Essential: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Desirable: Electrical safety training (additional safety courses may be required).
