The Engineering Technician will support the design engineering team with project development activities. This includes soldering, testing, programming devices, assembly of devices, etc. Our products include, but are not limited to, thermostats, indoor air quality systems, and line voltage products.
Job Duties:
- Perform and coordinate product validation according to design engineer’s directions, test procedures, product specifications, and regulatory standards.
- Specify, initiate, and coordinate the acquisition of new development equipment as needed.
- Manage diverse workloads independently, escalating conflicting priorities when necessary.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams across various functions, including process development.
- Prepare test reports, analyze discrepancies, and make recommendations to design engineers regarding product performance.
- Conduct activities safely, adhering to Resideo Safety requirements to protect staff, the public, and the environment.
- Take necessary actions to stop work if unsafe conditions or actions are identified.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a lab or production environment performing testing, assembly, and troubleshooting of electronic/mechanical components.
- Proficiency in using electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, LCR meters, power supplies) and mechanical tools (calipers, micrometers, force gauges, etc.).
- Experience with prototype assembly and modification, including SMT component handling and microscope use for detailed rework.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and relate them to PWAs.
- Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) and proficiency with Office tools for documenting test results.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of ESD-safe practices and safe lab procedures.
- Experience running experimental/life tests and setting up test configurations from wiring diagrams.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and contribute to team projects.
- Skilled in sample preparation, instrumentation monitoring, data collection, and technical report generation.
- Familiarity with PDM systems and Office 365.
- Experience with environmental and stress testing (lightning, EFT, transients).
- Proficiency in mechanical prototyping, disassembly, and shop tools (lathe, CNC, grinders).
- Hands-on experience with 240V line testing, RF testing, and thermal chambers.
- Advanced soldering/rework skills (0201, BGA components, SMD systems).
- Experience with 3D printing (FDM, Objet) and post-processing techniques.
- Knowledge of programming languages like Python or C++ (Arduino IDE).
