Descripción del empleo

This is a unique opportunity to use your software engineering and cryptography skills to build and maintain the security foundation that enables Ubuntu and its users to operate securely and remain compliant with international information security standards such as FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria. You will apply your cryptography, Linux Security, and coding skills to enhance the Ubuntu distribution and collaborate with organizations like DISA and CIS to develop and implement security hardening benchmarks.

As a member of the Security Hardening team, you will develop automation tools to audit deployed systems for DISA-STIG and CIS benchmark compliance, engage with stakeholders to identify gaps, and create solutions to address security challenges. You will influence team and security culture, facilitate technical delivery, and help steer team direction and execution, working closely with Canonical's kernel team and the broader engineering organization to impact all Ubuntu users.

Day-to-day responsibilities

1. Collaborate with engineers to achieve and maintain security certifications.
2. Enhance Linux cryptographic components (OpenSSL, Libgcrypt, GnuTLS, etc.) for FIPS and CC certification.
3. Work with external security consultants to test and validate kernel and cryptographic modules.
4. Develop security benchmarks and automation for audit and remediation in Ubuntu.
5. Contribute to Ubuntu mainline and upstream projects to benefit the community.
6. Communicate and collaborate to improve security posture, resolve issues, and deliver solutions.

What we are looking for in you

1. Hands-on experience with low-level Linux cryptography APIs and debugging.
2. Strong software engineering fundamentals, including C development experience.
3. Experience with Linux system administration and shell scripting.
4. Knowledge of security and cryptography principles, with experience in writing secure code.
5. Experience with open source libraries development.
6. Excellent communication skills for remote collaboration.

1. Experience with FIPS/Common Criteria certified products.
2. Experience with DISA-STIG or CIS benchmarks and related tooling.
3. Experience with Linux Kernel development.
4. Knowledge of Python, OVAL, and Ansible.
