Senior Software Engineer, Content Retrieval

Arc XP, a cloud-based digital experience platform, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the backend engineering team responsible for Arc's content management and retrieval system. Arc XP is the SaaS division of The Washington Post, powering more than 2000 media sites across 27 countries, reaching over 1.5 billion unique users. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting, designing, implementing, maintaining, and ensuring that our cloud-based APIs are efficient and scalable. You will also collaborate across teams on performance, security, and cost optimization as part of our Lean and Agile content platform group.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement solutions meeting functional and non-functional requirements, emphasizing quality through testing, peer review, and observability.
• Propose, design, and deliver technical improvements that enhance KPIs and customer satisfaction.
• Practice Agile development to deliver value regularly and contribute to roadmaps through refinement and estimation.
• Clarify technical directions by actively participating in discussions and asking questions.
• Support SLAs by participating in on-call rotations, resolving incidents, producing RCAs, and following best practices.
• Uphold security standards and participate in security processes to maintain customer trust.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expertise in server-side programming languages such as Node.js.
• Experience designing, building, and analyzing scalable web applications, from data layer to gateway.
• Experience with AWS services and troubleshooting multi-service applications.
• Preferred: Familiarity with API design and tools like Postman, JSON Schema, OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Enthusiasm for automated testing.

This is a fully remote position operating on US EST hours, reporting to the Engineering Lead for Content Retrieval. We support remote work from select non-US countries, including Mexico, Colombia, and Latin America.
