Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Director of Engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI) located in Guadalajara, North Campus.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Engineering NPI role involves driving new technology and managing complex processes. The role includes leading and ensuring the successful introduction of new products from design to full-scale production, meeting targets in timeline, cost, quality, and manufacturability. It requires cross-functional leadership, coordination of internal and external resources, and aligning customer requirements with manufacturing capabilities, technical and commercial skills, accountability, leadership, and teamwork.

What a typical day looks like:
  1. Develop and lead the NPI strategy across multiple customers and product lines.
  2. Coordinate the execution of new product projects through all phases: Planning, Design, Validation, Ramp-up, and Delivery, including additional NPI phases such as Prototype, EV Engineering validation, DV Design validation, PV process validation, and SOP start of production.
  3. Manage resources from Process Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product Engineering, Materials, Logistics, and Production managers to meet key deliverables.
  4. Ensure implementation of DfX (Design for Excellence), including Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  5. Oversee the implementation of Design fixtures & gauges, designing fixtures to facilitate production, gauges to measure critical-to-function (CTF) dimensions, process checklists, Gauge R&R, gauge design logic, and tolerances.
  6. Develop Work Instructions, exploded views of 3D models, SOP process controls, fixtures, gauges, and assembly line layouts.
  7. Track and drive performance using KPIs such as On-Time Delivery (OTD), First Pass Yield, launch cost adherence, ramp-up efficiency, and readiness audit scores.
  8. Collaborate with product engineering and customers to assess risks, propose technical solutions, develop product documents, 3D/2D designs, workmanship standards, and ensure critical-to-function (CTF) dimensions are controlled. Develop process mapping, bill of materials (BoM), and traceability.
  9. Ensure a smooth transition from prototype to full production (handover to operations).
  10. Lead phase gate reviews and progress meetings with senior leadership and customers.
  11. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, standardization, and lessons learned in product launches.
  12. Lead project transfers from NPI to sustaining, following established processes to ensure smooth handover.
  13. Provide leadership by inspiring and guiding multidisciplinary teams through complex projects.
  14. Communicate clearly across all levels, building trust and alignment between engineering, operations, and commercial teams.
  15. Foster a continuous improvement mindset, promoting innovation, learning, and process excellence in every launch.
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electronics Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in NPI, manufacturing, or process engineering in the metal-mechanical or automotive industry.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple concurrent projects, ideally in multinational environments.
  • Deep knowledge of APQP, QCP, PFMEA, control plans, process flows, layouts, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Advanced English proficiency.
  • Strategic thinking to align NPI activities with business goals and customer roadmaps, with quick root cause analysis and effective solutions.
  • Strong time management skills to prioritize multiple projects and ensure timely decisions and delivery.
  • Customer orientation with a focus on quality, responsiveness, and satisfaction.
