The Font Specialist is responsible for managing typefaces for in-vehicle, mobile, web displays, and more. This includes overseeing logistics, technical aspects, and the delivery of typography across all vehicles and projects.

Digital screens, such as touch displays, clusters, and HUDs in Ford and Lincoln vehicles, are increasingly important. They play a crucial role in delivering information and enhancing the driving experience. As safety and effective communication grow in importance, Human Machine Interaction (HMI) becomes a key focus. Our team is challenged to integrate new technologies and develop high-quality interfaces and interactions as we introduce new content and Driver Assistance features.

Qualifications

• C1-C2 English level with strong skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Design, or related field.
• Over 3 years of experience in Typography, including font management and collaboration with foundries.
• Experience managing font tasks, quality assurance, and software integration.
• Proficiency in typography and design tools such as Robôfont, Glyphs, Fontlab, Figma, etc.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment, interacting with international teams.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and project management skills, preferably with Agile experience.
• Team-building skills, negotiation abilities, and innovative problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support content management in the Fonts Management System.
• Manage file implementation issues.
• Oversee font release processes and document assessments aligned with program milestones.
• Analyze font cases.
• Conduct bug testing and reporting.
• Update AFF specifications.
• Plan font calendars.
• Design and deliver font newsletters and communications.
• Serve as a typographic consultant for Ford and Lincoln projects.
• Develop fonts for vehicle digital displays tailored to local market needs.
• Support procurement of external font development and maintenance services.
• Define typographic requirements and rules for display catalogs, ensuring ergonomics and legibility.
• Collaborate with the Design DNA team on language considerations in design.
• Support hardware and software prototyping of HMI concepts with fonts, including customer clinics.
• Ensure process discipline across the organization for font workstreams.
• Lead exploration and adoption of new technologies to enhance font delivery and quality, reducing time and increasing consistency.
