As the publisher of Ubuntu, we serve millions of developers building for the cloud, IoT, and data science. Our goal is to make open source easier and more reliable for innovators and enterprises.

We have established a Developer Relations team to engage directly with open source communities and developer-centric organizations. Our aim is to communicate our vision and products for better open source development experiences, and to gather feedback to shape our offerings and priorities.

Role: Developer Relations Engineer

This role requires a technical expert, strategist, and communicator with deep empathy for developers. It combines engineering skills with diplomacy across organizational boundaries. A Developer Relations Engineer is curious, innovative, and solutions-oriented, understanding user needs and staying current with tech trends to foster innovation.

Location: We are building our initial DevRel team across Europe, Middle East, Africa, and American time zones.

Typical Day:

• Participate in team product meetings, contributing insights from strategy to daily development
• Engage with the developer community via IRC, social media, forums, meetups, etc.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent approaches
• Resolve technical issues raised by users or colleagues
• Contribute to technical documentation and produce articles, presentations, or workshops
• Identify opportunities for improving the developer experience
• Present at conferences, meetups, or technical events

Candidate Profile:

• Passionate programmer or developer engaged in open-source software
• Experience with deploying software on Linux and with Linux packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, containers, etc.)
• Contributor to open-source communities and documentation
• Effective speaker and presenter
• Empathetic and confident in diverse organizational contexts
• Willing to travel globally twice a year for events

Additional Skills:

• Experience in developer advocacy or community roles
• Familiarity with Ubuntu and Canonical ecosystem
