Director-Sovereigns team

Fitch Ratings is currently seeking a Director-Sovereigns based out of our Mexico City office.

Fitch Ratings is one of the world’s top three credit ratings agencies, playing a critical role in global capital markets by providing supplementary credit analysis, ratings, research, and commentary to financial market participants. With dual headquarters in London and New York, Fitch Group is owned by Hearst.

The Fitch Ratings Sovereigns Group provides credit research and opinion on 120 sovereigns and assigns ratings to the foreign and local currency debt of sovereign governments, covering virtually all sovereign international debt issuance.

We’ll Count on You To:

  • Act as the ‘primary analyst’ for around six sovereigns in the Americas region, assigning and maintaining high-quality credit ratings.
  • Analyze creditworthiness by reviewing and forecasting macroeconomic, fiscal and external finance variables, analyzing policy trends and potential risks, conducting debt sustainability analyses, and exploring contingent liabilities.
  • Maintain good working relationships with central bank and government officials and third-party experts.
  • Organize and lead rating review discussions and prepare and present rating recommendations.
  • Produce topical research on economic and credit developments and represent Fitch’s views externally.

What You Need to Have:

  • You have 5-10 years’ experience in country/sovereign risk analysis or applied economics.
  • You possess strong proficiency in MS Office including Excel for maintaining extensive country databases and forecasting public finances and macroeconomic indicators.
  • You hold at least a Master’s degree in economics or a closely related discipline.
  • You have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Availability to travel (extensive international travel is required)
  • US tourist VISA

What Would Make You Stand Out:

  • A master’s degree in economics, international affairs or related discipline
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Portuguese (desirable)
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks to meet deadlines
