ABOUT THIS ROLE

This opportunity is for a Director, Software Development who will manage and grow an engineering team within Audible’s Marketing Technology (MarTech) group. You will define, design, and refine technology to stay ahead of listener needs. Your leadership will guide the team to develop innovative solutions that bring stories to millions and harness the power of the human voice.

The MarTech team develops systems enabling marketers to deliver multi-touch, personalized, and timely messages, enhancing user experience. Key initiatives include advanced marketing automation powered by AI and machine learning, pushing the boundaries of marketing technology to empower marketers effectively.

As a Director, Software Development, you will…

1. Lead the delivery of large, cross-functional projects across teams and divisions within Audible and Amazon.
2. Collaborate to define core business objectives, ensuring optimal resource utilization for successful outcomes.
3. Manage multiple projects from concept to launch, coordinating with technology, business, and operations teams, even with conflicting priorities.
4. Contribute to defining technical architectures.
5. Demonstrate technical expertise, attention to detail, and proactive issue resolution.
6. Maintain transparent communication regarding project risks, progress, launches, and retrospectives.
7. Continuously improve project execution performance, establishing new benchmarks with objective metrics.
8. Mentor and develop junior team members, enhancing their skills and system knowledge.

A day in the life

• Experience leading software development teams.
• 7+ years in software development and deployment of distributed multi-tier applications.
• 3+ years managing agile projects across distributed teams.
• Proven success delivering complex technical projects through effective leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Business fluency in English.
• Expertise in Content Management Systems, AI workflows, natural language processing, reinforcement learning, and related technologies.
• Proficiency in Web technologies (HTML, CSS, React), Java/J2EE, AWS, and machine learning models.
• Ability to adapt in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
• Strong communication, analytical, and mentorship skills.
