Purpose
The Director, International Business Liquidity Portfolio in Global Transaction Banking (GTB), is responsible to ensure the business deposit strategies, plans and initiatives across the IB markets contribute to the sustainable and profitable growth of the IB deposit portfolio, and are executed following governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. This role will work in partnership with teams across Latin America and the Caribbean to prioritize business deposit opportunities, support the development of deposit acquisition strategies and ensure a complete range of deposit and investment products exists in each market and optimized pricing is maintained to ensure Scotiabank is competitive and profitable on all business deposits globally. The role will support portfolio management disciplines and influence key portfolio metrics to bring global governance and alignment.
Accountabilities
• Develop and communicate a vision and strategy to guide the growth of business deposits across the international markets, in collaborate with GTB units, GBM, Commercial and Small Business
• Lead the development and execution of strategic plans to enhance the business deposit product suite across International Banking to contribute to the sustainable growth, profitability, and overall success of business deposit portfolios, both onshore and offshore
o Identify and evaluate market- and segment- specific opportunities, potential new products/product enhancements, sales strategies, and market positioning options, with guidance from local market and other GTB partners.
o Direct product development, based on GTB’s product governance processes, to ensure competitive and comprehensive products. This may include proof-of-concept initiatives, product pilots and rollouts, developing Product Master Plans.
o Sponsor customer and product research and analysis to improve product revenue and market share and support the development and improvement of product marketing and sales collateral.
• Lead all aspects of Deposit Product Management in conjunction with applicable stakeholders. This includes:
o Manage system development and maintenance in alignment with strategy, regulation, governance and compliance, risk management, audit, policies, and procedures.
o Maintain product documentation up-to-date relative to regulation and strategy changes.
o Ensure awareness of product capabilities and access to offers, through sales support tools, presentations, and marketing material.
o Assist in the development of training programs that support deposit business development, product knowledge and policy and procedures.
o Optimize process improvement by supporting and improving customer experience with business services through the refinement of policies, practices and processes related to business deposits.
o Communicate policies, processes and objectives to country partners and provide direction or authorization on issues with policy implications.
o Review, evaluate and lead the development of strategic proposals and business cases that contribute to business line deposit strategies and objectives of GTB and its partners. Where required, lobby with internal and external stakeholders to obtain buy-in and resources to proceed with projects.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning to ensure teams across IB remain informed on market trends and needs, economic data/commentary, competitive intelligence, regulatory changes, and client feedback. Ensure industry leading insights influence strategies, support product innovation, inform clients on drafting or revising investment policies and educate sales teams on deposit and investment capabilities and strategies.
• Support portfolio management disciplines and initiatives to improve global governance and controls.
• Work directly with Relationship Managers, TMO’s and Deposit Specialists globally to grow regulatory friendly deposits by identifying and providing liquidity solutions for clients and prospects, thereby achieving annual deposit growth targets.
• Ensure that the Bank’s interests are protected at all times by strictly adhering to risk management and compliance programs, internal and regulatory guidelines, including Know Your Customer, Anti-Money Laundering, etc.
• Performs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.
• Supports an environment that pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
• Supports building of a high-performance environment and a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, participating in the succession and development planning for the team.
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years in financial services
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; additional industry courses/designations (e.g. CFA) an asset;
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Must be an experienced banker with exceptional interpersonal, leadership, sales and business development skills
• Strong interpersonal skills to develop collaborative working relationship with teams across the various geographies
• Broad understanding of the range of products, policies, and delivery capabilities across the various geographies
• Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s international application systems and their relationships within the Bank
• Proven success in leading a team
• Proven success at selling deposit or fixed income products, which ideally would come with an extensive network of contacts and/or experience in FX / Fixed Income / Money Market industry through trading or sales is a definite asset
• Detailed understanding of the deposit products/services
• The incumbent must have thorough knowledge of the financial services industry including regulatory trends and economic conditions as they relate to short-term investment products.
