Descripción del empleo

The Standard, Mexico City arrives in the historic Tabacalera neighborhood with character, color and a signature wink. The hotel will feature 206 rooms and suites, 27 branded residences and a leafy “secret” garden sure to become the city’s favorite hideaway. Our debut in Latin America raises the aesthetic stakes, drawing from sun-washed CDMX architecture and a sensual, organic palette.

A bright café and late-night diner keep the ground floor lively from early mornings to the final nightcap. Above it all, a rooftop pool, signature restaurant and outdoor bar take in striking views of the Monumento a la Revolución. Each room and residence includes a private balcony, offering a front-row seat to the city.

The spa delivers thoughtful indulgence with a hydrotherapy, saunas and pools, plus a fitness studio with classes from yoga to HIIT. Set among Tabacalera’s galleries and creative corners, The Standard, Mexico City blends social energy with laid‑back escapism in a way only The Standard can.

We are now looking for a Design Manager who will embody our Anything but Standard ethos and help shape The Standard, Mexico City.

Your role

As our Design Manager, you’ll partner with our General Manager, Senior Executive team, and our New York‑based Corporate Design team to bring a wide range of interior design and creative initiatives to life across the property.

As part of our senior team, you’ll take the lead on critical FF&E projects and refurbishment works, ensuring design concepts and interior schemes remain on brief, on time, and on budget. You’ll have creative responsibility for the ongoing evolution and staging of our guestrooms, suites, restaurants, bars, and public areas, making sure every detail feels considered, culturally relevant, and unmistakably The Standard.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll act as the go‑to for all hotel design projects. You’ll develop scopes of work, manage RFP processes, build project timelines, and oversee supplier relationships. Working closely with our Engineering team and external consultants, you’ll ensure documentation is accurate, compliance requirements are met, and installations are delivered seamlessly within a live, high‑volume environment.

Once projects are approved, you’ll manage procurement, coordinate deliveries, and oversee installations to ensure every element lands as intended with minimal operational disruption.

You’ll also be the guardian of our design ethos across the property, from furniture layouts and lighting schemes to styling details and seasonal updates. This includes regular walk‑throughs of guestrooms and public spaces to maintain standards and identify opportunities for creative enhancement.

In partnership with Events, Marketing, and F&B, you’ll deliver distinctive finishing touches for launches, collaborations, and cultural activations that surprise and delight.

This is not a ‘Standard’ Design Manager position. You’ll need instinct, stamina, and the ability to translate creative vision into tangible spaces under pressure. You’ll thrive in a fast‑paced, design‑forward environment and feel as confident presenting strategy as you are being hands‑on during installations.

Qualifications

Do you have what it takes to be our Design Manager at The Standard, Mexico City?

A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in interior design, architecture, construction, or hospitality project management is essential, ideally within the Mexico City market and within a design‑led or lifestyle environment.

In addition, the ideal candidate will…

  • Have a strong understanding of the Mexico City hotel and lifestyle market, with awareness of current design trends across hospitality, food and beverage, retail, and cultural spaces.
  • Demonstrate a refined design sensibility supported by a portfolio of completed projects that showcase both creativity and technical competence.
  • Possess solid knowledge of Mexican building regulations, compliance processes, and statutory approvals.
  • Have experience managing refurbishments or construction projects within operational hotels or high‑volume hospitality environments.
  • Be confident leading FF&E selection, procurement, and installation from concept through completion.
  • Be commercially aware, with the ability to prepare costings, manage budgets, and deliver projects within agreed financial parameters.
  • Have strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail alongside strong administrative and IT capability, including MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and 3D design software such as SketchUp or Rhino.
  • Be a confident communicator, comfortable presenting ideas to senior stakeholders and collaborating cross‑functionally with Engineering, Operations, Events, and Marketing.
  • Be well connected within Mexico City’s design, supplier, and creative communities.
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours where project timelines and installations require.

If you think you can design spaces people won’t want to leave (and will definitely want to Instagram), send us your portfolio and tell us why you should be our Design Manager at The Standard, Mexico City.

All applicants must be eligible to live and work in Mexico. Documented evidence of eligibility will be required prior to commencing employment.
