Caterpillar Inc. in Torreón, Mexico, is seeking a Design Engineer to support the Compact Utility Loader production line. You will partner with global design teams to resolve manufacturing challenges, develop practical solutions, and release clear engineering documentation for production use.

The role emphasizes strong mechanical design, attention to detail, and cross-functional collaboration with suppliers, quality, and operations to ensure high-quality machines are built efficiently.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science or related field.
  • Advanced English proficiency.
  • Experience in product design engineering and/or manufacturing industries.

Responsabilidades

  • Provide first-line design engineering support to the machine assembly and fabrications factory, resolving production issues that affect build quality, fit, function, or manufacturability.
  • Investigate design-related factory concerns using drawings, CAD models, part data, and hands-on collaboration with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and operations teams.
  • Create, update, and release clear engineering documentation, including drawings, models, specifications, deviations, and design changes needed to support production.
  • Support continuous improvement, cost, quality, and NPI/CPI activities by identifying practical design solutions for various systems which could include fabricated structures, sheet metal, weldments, hydraulic lines, and other machine systems.

Job Description: As a Design Engineer in Caterpillar's BCP division, you will serve on the Compact Utility Loader (CUL) Product Engineering team. This team provides first-line design engineering support for the CUL production line and serves as the liaison engineering team for selected Torreón-built fabrications. The primary focus of this role is to support production by helping ensure high-quality machines and fabrications can be built efficiently, reviewing design-related factory challenges, and developing practical engineering solutions. Additional design and project responsibilities may be assigned based on team priorities, including new product introduction (NPI) and continuous product improvement (CPI) activities. You will work closely with design engineering teams in the U.S. and India, manufacturing engineering, factory team, suppliers, purchasing, and quality teams to resolve complex design and production issues and release high-quality engineering documentation. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical design capability, practical problem-solving skills, and strong attention to detail.

What you will do:

Skills you will have:
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
  • Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science or related.
  • English Advanced
  • Previous experience in product design engineering and/or manufacturing industries.
Top candidates will also have:
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (MFG).
  • Experience working in global or multicultural environments.
  • Experience in fabrication, welding and sheet metal.
  • Experience in one or more machine systems design including lines design
