is seeking a Data Scientist in Trust and Safety Analytics focused on Detection and Enforcement to identify and mitigate marketplace risks. You will partner with Operations, Product & Engineering to optimize controls and signals, and use data-driven insights to prevent abuse on the platform. The role reports to the Manager, Trust and Safety Analytics and offers a path to impact how millions of buyers and entrepreneurs stay safe while keeping commerce human.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in Trust & Safety, risk prevention, or related field.
• Strong analytical skills with large datasets.
• Advanced SQL and Python with knowledge of precision, recall, and false-positive rates.

Responsibilities

• Assess, define, and measure the success of controls and detections in partnership with Operations teams.
• Design new controls in response to emerging risks, partnering with partner teams to develop and/or launch new controls.
• Find opportunities for automation and control/signal improvements.
• Conduct investigative analysis to identify new abuse trends.
• Maintain and refine processes to review, validate, and provide estimated precision rates for proposed controls and machine learning models, collaborating with Operations, Product Engineering, and Trust & Safety.
• Collaborate with leadership, program management, and Product Engineering around control-tuning needs based on emerging trends.

We are looking for a Data Scientist in Trust and Safety Analytics focused in Detection and Enforcement identifying and mitigating potential risks on the platform. What does the day-to-day look like?

• You will assess, define, and measure the success of controls and detections in partnership with Operations teams.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Experience in Analytics or Data Science within e-commerce or an internet-based business, including 2+ years in Trust & Safety, risk prevention, or a related field
• Strong analytical skills, including experience working with large datasets to inform business decisions
• Advanced SQL and Python skills, along with knowledge of key statistical metrics such as precision, recall, and false-positive rates
• Ability to work independently, adapt to emerging platform risks, and make sound decisions in ambiguous, fast-paced environments

Compensation & Benefits

In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.

Location

We prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy’s Mexico Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office.
