Reporting to the Strategic Procurement Manager, you as a Commodity Manager will be responsible for plastic, rubber, and other materials for several manufacturing locations in the U.S. and Mexico. Facilitates the development and execution of long-term strategies that will provide year over year cost savings and quality & delivery improvements. Coordinates these activities with the goals and business requirements of engineering, quality, operations, and finance in achieving the optimal supply base capabilities.

About the job:

  1. Develops and maintains a commodity strategy that supports all company requirements and includes both Domestic and Low-Cost Country Sources as dictated by the needs of the business plan to achieve annual cost savings and supplier consolidation.
  2. Negotiates supplier contracts that commit performance improvements in cost, delivery, quality, order lead time, payment cycles, technology, and/or risk mitigation.
  3. Helps to develop strong working relationships with other functional groups within the Company and external suppliers to facilitate the accomplishment of strategic objectives.
  4. Monitors and mitigates PPV monthly within the commodities assigned. Provides input to budget and purchase price variance projections, and monitors performance to goals. Takes corrective action on notice of supplier deficiencies or market disruptions.
  5. Leads cost-saving projects with cross-functional teams to deliver on time and on cost.
  6. Negotiates with suppliers to extend payment terms.
  7. Supports NPD projects.
  8. Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to both domestic and international supplier sites. Travel of 20-25%.
  9. Must demonstrate solid business acumen, including knowledge of manufacturing, finance, marketing, and quality to understand the impact of sourcing decisions on the overall business success.
  10. Must understand the importance of QCD, viewed as seeking complementary improvements in Cost, Quality, and Delivery performance in supplier selection and contracting.
  11. Must have solid skills to effectively communicate with employees and suppliers at all levels within the organization.
  12. Participates in and leads cross-functional commodity teams.
  13. Must have familiarity with Procurement and Quality Supplier Metrics with flow-down to supplier contracts and performance reviews.
  14. Good understanding of blueprints and technical specifications.
  15. Strong personal computer skills including experience with MS Office and Data Management Software and well-established skills related to presentation development (MS PowerPoint) and delivery. Understanding of Access, Visio, JD Edwards, and SAP is a plus.
  16. Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma principles and performance improvement tools.
  17. Must have an understanding of ISO/TS quality specifications and demonstrated cost savings through negotiation, VA/VE, Low-cost Country Sourcing, SWOT, and cost modeling.
  18. Responsible for the effectiveness of the Company's Quality Management System (QMS) for the processes within this position's responsibility.
  19. Supports Lean/Six Sigma projects and initiatives to improve internal performance and customer responsiveness.
  20. Performs miscellaneous related duties and special projects as assigned.

Location: Remote

About you:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. Work towards a master’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Finance, or another related field is a plus.
  3. CPM or APICS certification is a plus.
  4. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in procurement or supply management with a mid to large size company that has demonstrated “best practices” in supply management.
  5. Comfortable working with Excel.
