About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated Commercial Contracts Legal Associate who is best in class with a high IQ plus a high EQ. The ideal candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts. This role requires a solid understanding of contract law, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to work closely with various departments to ensure contractual obligations are met and risks are minimized.

What You'll Do:

  • Drafting of Contracts: Prepare, review, and finalize a variety of commercial contracts, including supply agreements, customer agreements, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), licensing agreements, and partnership agreements.
  • Negotiation of Contracts: Negotiate the commercial terms and conditions with Sezzle’s clients and partners and ensure proper finalization for signatures.
  • Legal Compliance: Ensure that all contracts comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Provide guidance on legal issues related to contracts and advise on potential risks.
  • Contract Management: Maintain and manage the contract database, ensuring that all contracts are up-to-date, properly filed, and easily accessible. Monitor key contract milestones and renewal dates.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential risks in contract terms and conditions, and propose appropriate mitigation strategies. Work closely with the Risk Management team to align on risk tolerance and management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal departments, including Sales, Finance, Procurement, and Operations, to ensure that contract terms meet business needs and objectives.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving any disputes that may arise from contractual agreements, working closely with external counsel if necessary.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research on issues related to contracts and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to internal stakeholders on contract-related matters, including best practices in contract management and negotiation techniques.

What We Look For:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial contract law, majority of experience in a corporate or in-house legal environment.
  • Certification in contract management is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of contract law
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in the fintech or e-commerce industry is a plus.
