Summary
The Bids and Proposals Manager is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of pricing and procurement strategies that support international freight forwarding growth across air, ocean (FCL/LCL), and land services. This role will partner closely with the Global Director of Pricing and Procurement to implement pricing analysis procedures, supervise all commercial solution development, and drive cost efficiency and performance improvements. The role also functions as an escalation point for all pricing-related topics and oversees key aspects of rate maintenance, savings initiatives, invoice audits, and customer-facing pricing solutions.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
(include but are not limited to the following):
- Create collaboration between internal teams such as Procurement, Finance, Project Management, Operations, Commercial, and Solutions to execute cross-functional pricing solutions.
- Standardize rate structures, tariffs, and procedures to create a consistent and efficient pricing product across the team.
- Lead the development of routing, cost models, transit time assessments, and support carrier selection strategies alongside Procurement.
- Lead end-to-end bid and proposal processes for existing customers, focusing on international air, ocean (FCL/LCL), and intermodal services.
- Define process flows, milestones, handoffs, and technology enablement for each proposal.
- Support key account retention and growth through continuous improvement analysis initiatives in collaboration with Key Account Managers.
- Review and validate pricing proposals before submission to customers.
- Act as escalation point for pricing, billing, and rate maintenance issues.
- Collaborate with the Solutions Supervisor to achieve departmental goals and complete key initiatives.
- Align closely with the Commercial team to define timelines and strategy for customer pricing assessments.
- Provide training on customer tariff-related topics to internal teams.
- Identify root causes in analysis processes, tariff updates, billing errors, etc.
- Streamline workflows to improve efficiency across departments.
- Monitor and ensure proper handling of Rate Maintenance (RM) processes initiated by Finance or Operations.
- Ensure autorating and pricing timelines are met for accurate billing and invoicing.
- Design and implement templates, tools, and reports to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Lead internal and external cost improvement projects.
- Train teams on proposal and pricing processes to ensure consistency and promote cross-functional collaboration.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team, process, and company performance.
- Foster strong working relationships between commercial account owners and analysts during tariff cycles.
- Maintain and manage the bids log to help steer pricing strategy and customer proposals.
- Support non-RFQ opportunities as needed (e.g., pricing reviews for loss-making accounts, special analysis).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has supervisory responsibilities for teams located in the US and Mexico.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, or a related field from a four-year college or university, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and/or training.
Language Skills
Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
Other Skills
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
