An established industry player is seeking a Financial Controller to lead financial control and accounting activities. This role involves analyzing financial results, preparing budgets, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance and have extensive experience in a manufacturing environment. You will partner with various teams to drive profitability and implement process improvements, ensuring the integrity of financial data. What you will do
You will lead financial control and accounting activities to ensure accurate and timely preparation, recording, transmission, analysis, and communication of data necessary to control operations and achieve objectives. You will provide analysis, counsel, advice, and recommendations to help plant management make informed business decisions aimed at reducing costs, improving profits, and maximizing return on investment. Additionally, you will ensure the integrity of financial information generated at the plant, implement process improvements, and share financial knowledge with sales and operations teams.
How will you do it
Analyze monthly financial results for the full P&L at the Edmonton plants, validating the accuracy of key finance metrics.
Prepare annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and weekly outlooks for the facility.
Partner with the sales organization to communicate and align updates on S&OP versus financial outlooks.
Collaborate with engineering and procurement on annual standards rollout, monthly PPV reporting, and job costing/pricing variance management.
Review and monitor cycle count processes and physical inventories, analyzing reports for variances and taking corrective actions.
Work with shared service center teams to ensure timely balance sheet reconciliations and review of key reserve accounts quarterly.
Assist in preparing and reviewing financial justifications for plant capital projects, tracking spending, timing, and variances, and ensuring timely capitalization of equipment.
Review payroll and labor analysis, ensuring payroll controls are in place.
Ensure compliance with corporate and divisional accounting, internal control procedures, SOX, and reporting requirements.
Analyze plant operating costs and collaborate with operations leaders to develop actions that increase profitability and long-term ROI.
Support the implementation and reliability of plant IT systems, including coordinating system changes and improvements.
Work with operations to drive continuous improvement initiatives and validate their results.
What we look for
Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; HFM - Hyperion Financial Management is preferred.
Strong knowledge of internal controls and US GAAP accounting is required.
Excellent communication, motivation, and partnership skills with business operation leaders.
