Job summary

Cherokee Federal is seeking a Mail Clerk to support registered mail operations at Ali Al Salem Air Base (ASAB), Kuwait. The incumbent ensures secure processing, documentation, and delivery with strict chain-of-custody controls in a high-tempo overseas environment.

Active Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required; government contract roles may include benefits and full-time status. Training on USPS, DoD, and installation policies will be provided.

Location:Ali Al Salem Air Base (ASAB), Kuwait

Position Summary

The Registered Mail Clerk supports secure, accurate, and accountable registered mail operations at the Military Post Office (MPO) at Ali Al Salem Air Base. This position processes, safeguards, documents, and delivers registered mail in accordance with applicable U.S. Postal Service (USPS), Military Postal Service Agency (MPSA), Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, installation, and contract requirements. The Registered Mail Clerk maintains strict chain-of-custody controls and delivers professional customer service in a high-tempo overseas environment.

Mail Clerk Responsibilities Include:
  • Receive, process, sort, secure, dispatch, and deliver registered mail and other accountable mail items.
  • Maintain continuous chain of custody for registered mail from receipt through final delivery, transfer, dispatch, or return.
  • Verify, record, reconcile, and retain required registered-mail documentation, logs, receipts, manifests, and accountable-item records.
  • Use USPS Point of Service/Retail Systems Software (POS/RSS) to process transactions, generate receipts, track mail activity, and maintain accurate postal records.
  • Conduct daily, periodic, and end-of-shift registered-mail inventories and reconciliations.
  • Identify, document, and immediately report discrepancies, missing items, damaged items, security incidents, and other irregularities to the MPO Site Lead.
  • Safeguard registered mail, keys, stamps, postal funds, accountable forms, and sensitive postal records in accordance with established security procedures.
  • Provide customer service to authorized patrons, including verifying identity and obtaining required signatures for accountable-mail release.
  • Support general MPO operations, including mail sorting, parcel handling, customer counter service, and dispatch activities, as directed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, orderly, and secure work area.
  • Follow all contract, security, safety, force-protection, customs, and installation access requirements.
  • Complete required training and comply with all applicable USPS, MPSA, DoD, U.S. Air Force, and installation postal policies and procedures.
Mail Clerk Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
Required Qualifications
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience handling and processing registered mail.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience using USPS POS/RSS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of registered-mail accountability, chain-of-custody requirements, postal documentation, and customer-release procedures.
  • Ability to accurately process transactions, maintain records, reconcile inventory, and identify discrepancies.
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, reliability, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, military personnel, Government representatives, and team members.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and email.
  • Ability to meet all ASAB installation access, medical, training, security, and deployment requirements.
  • Mut pass pre-employment requirements of Cherokee Federal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting a Military Post Office, Army Post Office, Fleet Post Office, or other Department of Defense postal operation.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Air Force postal operations.
  • Knowledge of MPSA, USPS, DoD, and U.S. Air Force policies governing registered mail and accountable mail.
  • Experience in overseas, deployed, contingency, or austere operating environments.
  • Experience processing insured mail, certified mail, Express Mail, or other accountable postal items.
