The Regulatory Intelligence, Safety and Compliance (RISC) team's charter is to protect Amazon customers from products that are illegal, illegally marketed, unsafe, or otherwise prohibited by Amazon policies.

We are seeking an experienced Safety Risk Manager to join our EU team. This position will lead the development and execution of EU product recall strategies while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will bring in-depth knowledge and expertise in product safety regulations and risk governance. They must be detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills, strong customer obsession, and a track record of operating in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with ambiguity, have a strong attention to detail, and be motivated by a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating EU product recall activities, including risk assessment, strategy development, and execution. Your expertise in product safety and risk management will be crucial in defining policies and implementing compliance tools to ensure adherence to regulations and standards. You will own analysis and risk assessment activities required to formulate global product safety policies and implement and maintain EU-specific recall monitoring systems and metrics.

The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, possesses strong strategic thinking skills, and can seamlessly transition from strategy to execution. Independence in building stakeholder relationships and initiating new projects is essential. In this role, you will work closely with corporate counsel, legal, business teams, selling partner experience and support teams, operational excellence, product, BI, and data science/engineering teams to deliver high-impact, end-to-end product recall governance.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Lead and coordinate EU product recall activities, including risk assessment, strategy development, and execution.
  2. Develop and maintain EU recall procedures and policies aligned with regulatory requirements.
  3. Manage safety risks and drive initiatives to detect and prevent unsafe products on Amazon EU stores.
  4. Define policies and implement compliance tools to ensure adherence to regulations and standards.
  5. Own analysis and risk assessment activities required to formulate global product safety policies.
  6. Serve as the go-to subject matter expert for complex questions regarding optimal policies for scalable product safety decisions.
  7. Partner with internal stakeholders (Legal, Public Relations, Supply Chain, Customer Service) to ensure effective recall management worldwide.
  8. Implement and maintain recall monitoring systems and metrics.
  9. Drive continuous improvement in recall processes and procedures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience in compliance, audit or risk management
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
  • Experience developing and implementing standards, policies, and programs or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or equivalent
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
  • Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship
  • Experience with SQL and Excel
  • Experience in program requirements definition, together with data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements
  • Experience working with public policy or legal team, influencing internal policy
  • Excellent organizational skills with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting
  • Demonstrated skill and passion for problem solving, process improvement to mitigate risk and deliver a positive customer experience
