Duferco is expanding its Corporate Innovation Team to hire an engineering leader who will drive AI-assisted development, set high-leverage workflows, and improve engineering effectiveness.

You will mentor engineers, shape coding standards, tooling, and delivery practices while hands-on with AI-native software delivery. Hybrid Milan-based role offering flexibility and rapid impact across projects.

We are expanding Duferco’s Corporate Innovation Team: a fast-moving engineering team operating in a start up-like environment, backed by the stability and scale of a diversified global group.

We are looking for an engineering leader whose mission is to help evolve how software is built inside the organization through AI-assisted development, agentic coding workflows, and modern engineering practices.

This is not a traditional engineering management role focused mainly on delivery coordination. We are looking for someone who can establish and enforce high-leverage development workflows, improve engineering effectiveness, and help teams fully exploit modern AI coding tools and autonomous development systems.

You will work closely with engineers across projects and domains — helping shape coding standards, review processes, engineering tooling, development workflows, and AI-native software delivery practices.

What You’ll Do

Help transform and scale AI-assisted software development practices across the organization:

• Establish engineering best practices around AI-assisted and agentic coding workflows
• Drive adoption of modern AI development tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, MCP-enabled workflows, autonomous agents, and related systems
• Improve development velocity and code quality through AI-assisted review, testing, refactoring, documentation, and automation practices
• Define and evolve engineering workflows for AI-native software delivery, including PR review standards, coding conventions, development environments, and collaboration patterns
• Mentor engineers on effective usage of AI coding tools, balancing speed, maintainability, reliability, and engineering judgment
• Evaluate emerging AI development paradigms and help the organization adopt practical approaches with real leverage
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams while remaining hands‑on enough to understand workflow bottlenecks and opportunities first hand

Help shape internal engineering tooling, automation systems, and developer productivity infrastructure.

You’re Probably a Fit If

• You have experience leading or mentoring software engineering teams in fast-moving environments
• You actively use AI coding tools daily — Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, or similar — and have developed strong opinions about where they create leverage and where human judgment still matters most
• You think deeply about developer productivity, engineering workflows, code review quality, maintainability, and software delivery effectiveness
• You can balance pragmatism and engineering rigor without becoming process-heavy
• You are comfortable introducing new workflows and helping teams adopt them effectively
• You stay current with emerging development paradigms around LLMs, coding agents, autonomous workflows, MCP ecosystems, and AI-native engineering practices
• You are still technically strong enough to engage credibly with engineers and understand the realities of day-to-day software development
• You enjoy improving systems, workflows, and organizations — not just writing code

Experience with backend systems, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, developer platforms, LLM applications, agent frameworks, or internal engineering tooling is a strong plus.

You do not need experience with every technology we use. Strong engineering judgment, adaptability, curiosity, and the ability to help teams evolve matter much more.
