Jobtailor in Milan, Italy is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices, taking ownership from development to production while delivering reliable, high-performance software.

You will work with Java and Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and AWS, with opportunities to explore GenAI-powered features using LangGraph or Bedrock, and collaborate with Product and Stakeholders to improve onboarding and monetization pathways, and ensure excellent documentation and code

Competenze

• At least 1 year of backend engineering experience building scalable microservices.
• Strong Java and Spring Boot skills with relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Experience in cloud environments, preferably AWS; familiarity with GenAI-driven features is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Story Lifecycle - Work closely with senior engineers to design, develop, and release robust product stories, taking responsibility for your features from local development to production.
• Accelerate Activation & Trust - Build and optimize the high-reliability systems behind onboarding, document verification, and security flows, ensuring users can start transacting safely within minutes.
• Drive Engagement & Discovery - Enhance the app experience by developing core backend services for shop discovery, transaction management, and personalized consumer journeys through CRM integrations.
• Scale Loyalty & Monetization - Contribute to our "Plus" subscription plans, referral programs, and loyalty mechanics (points and rewards), building the technical foundation for long-term user retention.
• Master a Modern Tech Stack - Take ownership of our AWS-based infrastructure (EC2/ECS, S3, Lambda, Kinesis) and participate in architectural improvements across our growth-focused microservices.
• Work in an AI-Powered Environment - Leverage AI tools daily to write and optimize code, speed up root cause analysis, and generate documentation, raising the bar for engineering efficiency.
• Ensure Quality and Stability - Write clean, testable code, participate in code reviews, and assist the team in incident resolution and root cause analysis to maintain high system health.
• Collaborate & Document - Write clear technical documentation for your features and sync with Product and Stakeholders to keep your work aligned with the team roadmap.

Requirements

• Experience - You have at least 1 year of experience as a Backend Engineer, with a strong track record of building and maintaining scalable microservices in fast-paced environments.
• Technical Foundations - Solid expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with a good understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and cloud environments. If you’re also passionate about or have hands-on experience building GenAI-driven features, such as backend services using LLMs, orchestration frameworks like LangGraph, or AWS cloud services like Amazon Bedrock, that’s considered a value-add.
