Job summary

Vertiv in Bologna seeks a Senior Pre‑Sales Engineer to design integrated power solutions during the proposal phase. You will work on system‑level designs, SLDs and layouts across electrical, mechanical, control and EPMS disciplines.

You will translate customer needs into buildable designs, perform electrical calculations, and coordinate with engineers and suppliers to ensure feasibility and timely delivery. Knowledge of data centre power architecture is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical preferred) or equivalent practical experience.
• 5–8 years of experience in electrical design, pre-sales engineering or integrated solution design.
• Strong electrical engineering fundamentals: network calculations, protection coordination, withstand rating.
• Experience with data centre power architecture, power skids or comparable engineered systems.
• Knowledge of IEC/IEEE, CE/UKCA and EMEA codes; proficient with CAD, BIM and network‑calculation tooling.
• Power-system simulation and digital-twin based design validation; able to de‑risk designs before release.
• Strong written and verbal English; additional EMEA languages are an advantage.
• Exposure to grid‑interaction studies and MV switchgear applications is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as system blueprint integrator translating validated product mix into precise SLDs and layouts within the customer footprint.
• Perform electrical engineering calculations, including load, short‑circuit, network and withstand ratings.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs (mechanical, electrical, control, EPMS) into coherent engineered solutions.
• Translate customer requirements and tender docs into buildable designs.
• Collaborate with customers, consultants and suppliers during the proposal phase.
• Validate feasibility, cost and lead time with design engineering and factories before commitment.
• Apply design-for-safety across SLDs and layouts; ensure maintainability.
• Use simulation and digital‑twin validation to de‑risk designs before customer release.
• Hand over cleanly to ETO with clear assumptions and exclusions; flag long‑lead items early.
