Nokia in Genova, Liguria, Italy seeks a Senior Optical Transceiver Engineer to drive evaluation, validation, and introduction of pluggable transceivers for Datacom and Telecom (100G–1.6T). You will define requirements, lead lab validation, and coordinate cross‑functional activities with global teams and suppliers.

The role requires deep technical expertise in optical transceivers, strong project management, and excellent communication in English. Travel internationally is expected as needed.

As a Senior Optical Transceiver Engineer at Nokia, you drive the evaluation, validation, and introduction of advanced pluggable transceivers for Datacom and Telecom-from 100G to 1.6T. You will work within a global, cross-functional optics team to define requirements, support supplier selection, and shape the product portfolio. You lead test strategy definition, remote validation coordination, and hands-on lab validation in automated environments, contributing to Nokias cutting-edge optical solutions. This role blends deep technical expertise with project management and international collaboration to advance connectivity.

• Evaluate, validate and introduce pluggable optical transceivers into the product portfolio for Datacom and Telecom (100G-1.6T)
• Define application requirements and procurement specifications in collaboration with PLM and suppliers
• Support supplier selection, RFQ processes, and vendor technical evaluations
• Develop test strategies, coordinate remote validation, and execute lab validation in automated test environments
• Manage projects and reporting, balancing planning, coordination, and stakeholder communication
• Engage with cross-functional teams across PLM, Procurement, suppliers, and validation groups
• Perform technology scouting and assess enabling optical/microelectronics technologies
• Review RFQ feedback and rank supplier capabilities to meet Nokia needs
• Maintain knowledge of transceiver form factors, MSA specifications and industry standards (ITU-T, IEEE, OIF)
• Operate effectively in an international, virtual team with strong communication and adaptability
• Travel internationally as required to support validation and supplier engagements
• Provide hands-on validation support and ensure alignment with product roadmap and quality goals
• Solid experience with pluggable optical transceivers for Datacom and Telecom (100G, 200G, 400G, 800G, 1.6T)
• Deep knowledge of transceiver form factors and MSA specifications
• Experience with enabling optics and microelectronics technologies, including optical propagation
• Familiarity with industry standards ITU-T, IEEE, OIF for optical interfaces
• Proven experience in optical transceiver validation and laboratory testing
• Experience in test automation of validation setups
• Preferred: Python, LabVIEW
• Experience in technical discussions, assessments, and negotiations with optical module suppliers
• Strong project and program management capabilities
• Senior level autonomy in a technical role
• Fluent in English; Italian nationality; strong communication in Italian and English
