Job summary

E-recruit, on behalf of an international automation client, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Team Leader to drive the mechanical design of robotics and packaging systems. You will mentor junior engineers and deliver solutions from concept through FAT/SAT.

You will master 3D CAD (SolidWorks), develop detailed models and BOMs, and ensure designs meet GMP, CE, and safety standards while collaborating across controls, electrical, PM, and production teams. Remote with travel ~10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years in mechanical design, with 5+ in automation or special‑purpose machinery.
• Experience with pharmaceutical or medical device automation.
• Proven track record leading design of complex packaging equipment.
• Expert 3D CAD with SolidWorks and PDM.
• Familiarity with CE marking and ISO 12100/13849.
• Remote work with occasional travel (~10%).

Responsibilities

For our client, an international automation company, we are looking for a:

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - TEAM LEADER

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design of cutting-edge robotics and secondary packaging equipment, including cartoners, case packers, tray loaders, and custom machines. You will drive design innovation, mentor junior engineers, and play a critical role in delivering high-quality solutions from concept through FAT and SAT.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Duties:

• Own the mechanical design of bespoke automation and secondary packaging systems, starting from concept through to completion.
• Produce detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks (or similar CAD software).
• Specification & sourcing of off-the-shelf components.
• Work cross-functionally with Controls, Electrical, Project Management and Production teams.
• Lead Design Reviews both internally and externally.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing department to optimise for cost, performance, and ease of assembly.
• Plan the work using the approved Project Methodology and Standard Work-Flows.
• Generate the required project documentation (internal and external).
• Ensure designs comply with GMP, CE, and industry-specific safety standards.
• Perform risk assessments and DFMEA.
• Mentor and coach junior mechanical designers and engineers.
• Continuously evaluate new technologies, materials, and design methodologies to improve machine performance and reliability.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years’ experience in mechanical design, with at least 5 in automation or special purpose machinery.
• Experience with pharmaceutical or medical device automation
• Proven track record in leading the design of complex, high-speed mechanisms and packaging equipment.
• Expert-level proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and PDM systems.
• Strong mechanical intuition, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
• Strong understanding of pneumatics, servo systems, cams, and mechanical drives.
• Familiarity with CE marking and machine safety standards (ISO 12100, ISO 13849, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence across engineering and customer teams.
• Experience with coaching and mentoring of younger colleagues.
• Work arrangement: remote, with occasional travel (approx. 10%) for client collaboration.

Preferred Requirements:

• Understanding of validation processes (e.g. DQ, FAT, SAT).
• Knowledge of vision systems and robotic integration (Delta/Cobots).
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and design-for-manufacture (DFM).
• FEA and motion simulation experience (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys).
• Leadership experience on cross-functional project teams.
