Fluence Energy Ita is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead the end-to-end commissioning of energy storage projects across EMEA and beyond, ensuring testing, validation, and integration meet technical standards and grid requirements.

The role collaborates with construction, engineering and external stakeholders, defines commissioning strategies, and oversees testing of systems from project networks to battery subsystems, with frequent international travel.

Job Description:

Role Overview

The Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for leading the end-to-end commissioning of Fluence energy storage projects across EMEA and globally. This role ensures that all systems are tested, validated, and integrated in accordance with technical standards, contractual requirements, and grid regulations to enable safe and successful commercial operation.
Working cross-functionally with construction, engineering, contractors, and external stakeholders, the Senior Commissioning Engineer drives commissioning strategy, planning, and execution, while ensuring quality, safety, and performance at every stage. This position plays a critical role in transitioning projects from construction to operations by delivering fully commissioned, compliant, and operational energy storage systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Commission Fluence Projects working in cooperation with multiple project stakeholders including Fluence construction managers, contractors, suppliers, telecommunication teams, control systems teams, etc.
• Develop and execute commissioning plans including resourcing and scheduling.
• Lead commissioning effort to achieve commercial operations, and handover from delivery/construction team to the O&M team for each project.
• Define, develop and execute testing protocols based on market rules, local utility requirements, off-taker and third-party supply contracts.
• Oversee complete commissioning and acceptance testing of the following systems:
  • Project networks, communications, and control systems;
  • Balance of plant relay protection, metering, HVAC, fire suppression, and electrical systems;
  • Battery subsystem;
• Perform electricity market and/or off-taker qualification testing as required for the project to commence commercial operations.
• Travel throughout EMEA and internationally

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering (Bachelor / Master) or an equivalent training
• Min. 10 years of relevant work experience
• Relevant knowledge in the area of battery storage systems, inverter, switchgear for low and medium voltage
• Excellent knowledge of the battery energy storage related standards and regulations of the VDE, IEC, IEEE in general
• Willingness to continuously improve and develop the professional skills
• Ability to convince others through initiative, constructive criticism, collegiality, decision-making ability, result orientation and a high level of quality awareness
• Professional reporting and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Fluent in English and German
