ABB Smart Buildings in the Milan area seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support the Product Care team for the People Protection portfolio. You will develop 3D CAD models, perform simulations, and build prototypes to validate designs.

You will apply AI and digital engineering methods, collaborate with laboratories and suppliers, and drive continuous improvement in reliability, manufacturability, and overall product excellence. This is a hybrid role based in Vittuone, Italy.

Competenze

• University degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Strong 3D CAD experience (CATIA V5 and/or Creo) and prototypes/test support.
• Interest in digital engineering, AI, and data-driven product development.

• Support Product Care activities for existing products with emphasis on robustness, quality, and cost efficiency.

You will work across the product development cycle, from concept generation and 3D design to engineering analysis, prototyping, testing, and industrialization support. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and manufacturing teams, applying modern engineering tools, digital technologies, and Artificial Intelligence solutions to solve technical challenges and improve product development processes.The work model for the role is: Hybrid #Li-HybridThis is a temporary contract position.This role is contributing to the People Protection product portfolio within ABB Smart Buildings in Vittuone (Milan), Italy. Main stakeholders are R&D, Product Care, Quality, Operations, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, laboratories, and suppliers.You will be mainly accountable for:Supporting Product Care activities for existing products, ensuring technical robustness, quality, competitiveness, and continuous improvement.Developing and modifying 3D CAD models and technical documentation, as well as performing engineering studies and simulations to evaluate product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.Designing, building, and validating prototypes in collaboration with laboratories, suppliers, and manufacturing teams, while supporting root cause analysis and cost reduction initiatives.Exploring and applying new technologies, materials, digital engineering methods, and AI-based approaches to improve design efficiency, problem solving, and product development processes.Qualifications for the roleMaster's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent Engineering qualification.Good knowledge of 3D CAD design, with experience in CATIA V5 and/or Creo highly appreciated.Basic knowledge of engineering simulations, such as structural, thermal, or multiphysics analysis, with experience in prototype development, testing, or product validation considered an advantage.Interest in Digital Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and data-driven product development; knowledge of MATLAB is a plus.Knowledge of SAP and PLM/PDM systems, together with good command of Microsoft Office tools.You are passionate about hands-on engineering, problem solving, and continuous improvement, with a curious, proactive mindset and willingness to learn in a dynamic international environment.You are at ease communicating in Italian and English, both written and spoken.Compensation PackageAs part of our commitment to transparency, we want to share the compensation details for this position:Applicable CBA: MetalmeccanicoMinimum annual salary: € 36.000Variable Pay: Eligible for Company Productivity BonusThe offer will be tailored based on your role location, experience, skills and qualifications, internal market positioning and alignment with ABB internal standards.Building a cleaner, smarter future takes all kinds of minds: the curious, the courageous, and the creative.
