World Food Programme is seeking a Product Manager for Digital SBP Products to oversee school meals digital solutions in a consultancy role based in Rome, Italy. You will liaise between nutrition/school meals teams and the technology division while guiding product strategy and vendor collaboration.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in agile product management, cross-functional leadership, and experience shaping digital roadmaps for government programs.

JOB TITLE: Product Manager – Digital SBP Products

DURATION: 3 months

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The product manager is the main technical focal point between the Nutrition, School Meals and Social Protection Service (PRGS) and WFP’s Technology Division and oversees day-to-day operations and product development of school meals digital products. He/she will report directly to the Programme and Policy Officer, Food Systems and Nutrition and collaborate closely with the digital solutions and innovation consultants dedicated to rollout of School Connect and School Meal Planner PLUS. The goal of School Connect is to track attendance, consumption and stock movements at school level in all WFP operated School Feeding programmes worldwide and to provide support to government monitoring systems and frameworks. The SMP PLUS application allows governments and WFP to optimize school menu design, taking into account nutritional requirements, sourcing and prices.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Update and translate inputs into the business case and manage current software development backlog for menu optimization into a user-friendly quality application, which includes a nutrition, health, price and economic impact angle and to be used by governments in the improvement of their school feeding menus.
• Update and translate inputs into the business case and manage current software development backlog for enrolment and attendance, consumption and stock movement tracking, reporting and analysis digital solution to improve decision-making based on real time information by the country office management, partners and governments
• Serve as focal point for ongoing engagements with the following stakeholders/projects:
  • UN Global Pulse Accelerator Scaling Catalyst Project
  • WFP Critical Corporate Initiative on Digital Business Transformation
  • WFP COMET sub-working group on distribution reporting
  • Scope In-Kind/Cooperating Partner Stock Management tool requirements gathering working group
  • WFP Innovation Accelerator (Sprint project)
• Maintain product roadmaps and school meals digital strategy
• Present any update to the Product Roadmap for comment or endorsement to internal and external stakeholders
• Keep the team accountable to their commitments to the business and remove any roadblocks that might impede the team’s productivity and meet at least weekly to review work and deliverables.
• Manage the product budget and expenditures and prepare any requested cost estimates in collaboration with TEC’s high-level effort estimates.
• Keep track of the consumption of purchased time-and-materials quotas for vendors.
• Provide guidance to vendors concerning the submission of consumption reports and invoices.
• Approve consumption reports for the insertion the corresponding Service Entry Sheets; and
• Create and renew Purchase Orders in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, considering corporate efficiency measures
• Any other duties as required for the successful delivery of the product or project.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE PERIOD:

• UN Global Pulse Accelerator Scaling Catalyst narrative and financial project reports submitted
• WFP DBTP/CCI Quarter 3 report submitted and validated
• School Connect and SMP PLUS software development vendors renewed for remainder of 2026
• Technical inputs provided into SCOPE In-Kind and Cooperating Partner stock management system requirements gathering
• Backstopping of any School Connect and SMP PLUS missions provided during the period
• School Connect and SMP PLUS tools are configured following country office requests during rollout period

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: University degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Social Sciences or related fields.

Experience: Minimum six years post graduate experience with product/project management, and a proven track record of planning, leading and executing related projects.

Knowledge & Skills: In-depth knowledge and experience with Agile and Scrum desirable. Knowledge of Product and Project Management methodologies and tools. Experience gathering business and user requirements. Ability to influence cross-functionally to manage projects within a matrix environment; Ability to manage budget, resources and risks. Ability to manage Stakeholders also at senior levels.

Languages:Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
