Job summary

Revolv Space in Turin, Italy is seeking a PVA & Electrical Engineer to drive development, assembly, and testing of solar array systems for space missions. You will work with AIT and product teams to ensure high-quality PV solutions.

Responsibilities include designing jigs and tools, performing diverse tests, and analysing electrical circuits for solar arrays, with a focus on reliability under space conditions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional PVA experience.
• Soldering/PV welding and testing experience.
• Strong understanding of electrical and physical properties of solar cells and PV materials.
• Knowledge of physics in space engineering (radiation, vacuum, thermal stresses).
• Familiarity with space industry standards for PVA.

Responsibilities

• Lead PVA process development, qualification, and execution.
• Design jigs, fixtures, and tools for PV cell alignment and integration.
• Conduct non-destructive and destructive tests to validate welded/bonded joints.
• Design and analyze electrical circuits of the solar array, including stringing and harness routing.
• Perform analyses to predict electrical performance under space conditions.
• Develop and implement test plans for electrical performance (I-V curves).
• Build prototypes of solar panel sections for testing.
• Execute environmental tests (TVAC, vibration) to simulate launch/on-orbit conditions.
• Conduct performance testing, including solar simulator tests to measure power output.

Job description

Space assets and services are not fully monetized. Commercial payloads on board small satellites, like cameras, sensors, and antennas, work for less than 20% of the time spent in orbit due to limitations in small satellite buses. At Revolv Space, we are solving this problem by designing, manufacturing, and testing the next generation of critical components enabling continuous payload operations and full monetization of space assets.

We start with tackling the power limitations of small satellites by providing a fail-safe and autonomous Solar Array Drive Assembly for small satellites.

To achieve this mission, we are seeking a PVA & Electrical Engineer to join our team. This role is for a hands-on expert who will drive the development, assembly, and testing of our spacecraft's solar array systems. You will work closely with both the AIT and product development teams.

Your mission:

• Lead the PVA process development, qualification and execution;

• Design and develop jigs, fixtures, and tools for the precise alignment and integration of photovoltaic cells;

• Conduct a variety of non-destructive and destructive tests to validate the quality of welded and bonded joints;

• Design and analyze the electrical circuits of the solar array, including stringing of cells, diode placement, and harness routing;

• Perform analyses to predict electrical performance under various space conditions (e.g., thermal cycles, radiation exposure);

• Develop and implement test plans for electrical performance, including I-V (current-voltage) curve characterization;

• Build prototypes of solar panel sections for testing;

• Execute environmental tests, such as thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing and vibration testing, to simulate launch and on-orbit conditions;

• Conduct performance testing, including solar simulator testing, to measure power output.

What you bring:

• 5+ years of demonstrated professional experience in PVA (photovoltaic assembly)

• Professional soldering/PV welding and testing experience

• Strong understanding of the electrical and physical properties of solar cells and solar array materials

• Good knowledge of physics in the context of space engineering (effects of radiation, vacuum, space particles and thermal stresses on electrical/PV systems)

• Good knowledge of space industry standards related to PVA

• Proficiency in CAD software for designing solar panel layouts and fixtures

• Experience with test equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, and data acquisition systems.

• Strong analytical skills to interpret test data and troubleshoot issues

• Fluent use of English

• Not required, but helpful: skills in PCBs and flexible PBCs design
