Job summary

Leonardo S.p.A. (Telespazio – Leonardo Space Division) is seeking a Mission Planning System Engineer in Rome with 5–7 years of experience to design and coordinate mission planning software for satellite ground segments, including Earth Observation and optical communications.

The role emphasizes constraint handling across power, thermal, guidance, platform and payload, in an Agile/SCRUM environment. You'll work in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders,

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Aerospace, Automation or Information Engineering with competences in Flight Dynamics.
• Proven Experience in Mission Planning system design and implementation.
• Software Design Principles and Microservices experience.
• Knowledge of Java and Python programming languages.
• Knowledge of security coding standards (OWASP, CWE/SANS).
• Experience with Container Orchestration frameworks (Kubernetes, OpenShift).
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Experience with AI agent development ecosystems (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI).

Responsibilities

• Analyze mission requirements and constraints to determine satellite models.
• Design and coordinate software solutions for mission planning, including large constellations.
• Analyze and integrate external satellite models into the mission planning system.
• Contribute to technical documentation (Requirements, OCP, Ops Eng Plan, manuals, test procedures).
• Assist in project reviews when required.
