MindEarth is hiring a Junior-Mid Frontend Developer / UX-UI Designer in Milan. You will build interfaces with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind, and implement map visualizations with MapLibre GL and Mapbox GL. The role blends frontend development with design sensibility in a hybrid setting.

MindEarth builds web applications that turn complex geospatial data, satellite imagery, settlement footprints, mobility and socio-economic datasets, into products people can actually use. We're looking for a frontend developer with a strong design sensibility to join our engineering team. This is a hybrid role by design: you'll spend most of your time building interfaces in code, but you'll also shape how they look, feel, and behave. You don't need to be a complete product designer, you need good instincts for visual design and usability, and the curiosity to participate in product discovery rather than just executing tickets. You'll work directly with our Senior Geospatial Full Stack Engineer, who will mentor you on both the engineering and geospatial sides of the work.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain interactive web applications with Next.Js or similar, React, and TypeScript
• Implement map-based visualizations using deck.Gl and MapLibre GL
• Design UI components, layouts, and interaction flows: from quick Figma explorations to polished, production-ready interfaces styled with Tailwind CSS
• Build interfaces that are accessible by default: semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, sensible contrast and focus states, and screen-reader-friendly components
• Participate in product discovery: help translate loosely-defined problems ("we need to show X to this client") into concrete, well-scoped interfaces
• Iterate on designs based on user feedback, client demos, and internal reviews
• Contribute to a growing internal component library and design conventions
• Collaborate with data scientists and geospatial engineers to understand the data behind the interfaces you build

Your profile

• 1–4 years of professional experience building frontend applications with React and TypeScript
• Solid grasp of modern CSS and experience with Tailwind (or ability to pick it up quickly)
• A demonstrable eye for design: you notice spacing, hierarchy, typography, and color, and your work shows it: a portfolio, side projects, or production apps you're proud of
• An interest in accessibility and inclusive design: awareness of basics like color contrast, keyboard navigation, and semantic markup, and the motivation to keep learning (WCAG familiarity is a bonus, not a requirement)
• Comfort working with designers' tools (Figma or similar) at a practical level: creating mockups, organizing components, handing off or picking up designs
• Interest in product thinking: asking why before how, questioning requirements, proposing simpler solutions
• Good written and spoken English; comfort working in a small, async-friendly European team
• Willingness to learn geospatial concepts (projections, tiles, vector vs. raster data) on the job

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial or data visualization libraries: , MapLibre, Mapbox GL, Leaflet, D3, or WebGL in general
• Familiarity with Next.Js (App Router, SSR/SSG trade-offs)
• Exposure to cloud-native geospatial formats (COG, PMTiles, GeoParquet, GeoZarr) and tiling services
• Experience auditing or improving accessibility in real products (axe, Lighthouse, screen-reader testing, ARIA patterns)
• Experience running or participating in user research, usability testing, or discovery workshops
• Basic Python or backend experience (Node.Js APIs, REST)
