Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG is looking for a Network and Systems Engineer for the Expansion Project in Trieste. The successful candidate will manage IT hardware projects, coordinate with suppliers, and ensure compliance with safety and security standards.

The role requires 5+ years of experience in IT project management with a focus on hardware. Ideal candidates should be willing to relocate to Trieste and possess good command of English, with Italian or German as a plus. A degree in IT or Engineering is required.

HHLA PLT Italy is a multipurpose maritime terminal started in 2021, located in the middle of the fast-growing North Adriatic market. Here, the Expansion Project Team, carried out by the company Logistica Giuliana, is planning and executing a game changer phased project aiming to integrate the current facility into a state‑of‑the‑art container and Ro‑Ro terminal, making use of the most advanced technologies and expertise.

To support this transformation, we are looking for a Network and Systems Engineer to join the Expansion Project Team.

As Network and Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination and delivery of IT hardware infrastructure required for the future terminal. You will ensure that hardware systems are properly specified, delivered, installed and integrated in line with project timelines, operational requirements and safety standards.

You will act as a key interface between IT, Operations, Engineering, external suppliers and project stakeholders, ensuring smooth execution across all expansion phases.

What you can expect

• Manage and coordinate IT hardware projects within the terminal expansion programme
• Define and validate hardware and infrastructure requirements (networks, communication systems, servers, data centres, field devices)
• Coordinate suppliers and contractors providing works or services, ensuring compliance with technical, safety and security requirements
• Oversee installation, testing and commissioning of IT hardware systems
• Ensure seamless integration between hardware, software and existing IT systems
• Support project planning, scheduling and risk management for hardware‑related activities
• Coordinate acceptance tests, integration tests and go‑live phases
• Ensure compliance with port safety, security and corporate IT standards
• Act as part of the Expansion IT Project Management Team, contributing to overall project governance

What you bring to the table

We are looking for a hands‑on project manager with strong technical understanding and the ability to coordinate complex hardware deployments in an industrial environment.

• Very good English skills (Italian and/or German are a plus)
• 5+ years of experience in IT project management, with a strong focus on hardware and infrastructure
• Proven experience in networking, data communication and IT infrastructure
• Experience in industrial, logistics, port or terminal environments (strongly preferred)
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and suppliers in an international context
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Structured, process‑ and risk‑oriented mindset
• Solid understanding of IT project management methodologies
• Degree in IT, Engineering or a related field
• Valid EU work permit and willingness to relocate to Trieste at short notice
