A growing investment management firm in Milan is seeking an Entry-level Investment Analyst to join their team. The role involves assessing investment opportunities in the sustainable infrastructure sector, building financial models, and coordinating due diligence processes. Founded by senior executives from the renewable energy and funds management industries in partnership with a leading global insurance company headquartered in Europe, the founding partners bring together over 55 years of aggregate investment experience in energy transition infrastructure across a range of technologies, geographies, and industrial partners.

Job Role: Investment Analyst
Key Responsibilities
  • Opportunity Assessment & Valuation: Collaborate with the investment team to identify and evaluate new investment opportunities in the sustainable infrastructure sector, spanning multiple technologies and across various European countries.
  • Financial Modeling: Build and interpret complex financial models, including discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, sensitivity analysis, and scenario planning.
  • Due Diligence: Participate in comprehensive due diligence processes (technical, financial, legal, tax, accounting, market and ESG) to assess investment risks and opportunities.
  • Business Case Preparation: Develop and present comprehensive business cases for potential investments, including the preparation of high-quality decks and supporting materials for the Investment Committee and Board decision‐making processes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders—including technical advisors, legal counsel, and project partners—to facilitate smooth transaction execution and project delivery.
  • Project Execution & Monitoring: Support project execution, monitor project performance, and supervise operational activities to ensure alignment with investment objectives.
  • Asset Disposal Analysis: Analyze and support the process of asset disposal when required.
  • Market Research & Trend Analysis: Conduct ongoing research into market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies in the sustainable infrastructure sector.
Activities connected to the role (day‑to‑day)
  • Pipeline screening & pre‑diligence: Review teasers, NDAs, and initial project information; run quick screens to assess fit with the fund’s strategy and risk/return profile; prepare opportunity notes for the Investment Team.
  • Financial model ownership: Build, maintain, and version‑control DCF models; refresh assumptions (capex/opex, tariffs, merchant curves), and run sensitivity/scenario analysis to support valuation and decision‑making.
  • Risk analysis: Support risk assessment and updates, also through regular update of the internal platforms and regular interaction with CRO’s team.
  • Investment case materials: Draft Investment Committee and Board memos and slide decks summarizing the business case, key risks/mitigants, returns, and proposed structure; incorporate stakeholder feedback and secure approvals.
  • Due diligence coordination: Set up and manage the deal Q&A log; coordinate technical, financial, legal, tax, commercial, and market workstreams; track deliverables and findings; organize site visits and expert sessions.
  • Financing support: Prepare lender packs and model outputs; respond to bank/investor Q&A; contribute to covenant analysis and financing scenarios across debt, mezzanine, and equity structures.
  • Transaction execution & closing: Maintain timetables, manage data rooms, liaise with external counsel on CP checklists and term sheets, and support closing documentation and sign‑offs.
  • Project monitoring & operations interface: Track construction/operations KPIs, analyze variances versus budget, escalate issues, and work with partners/operators to implement corrective actions.
  • Market & regulatory watch: Monitor policy, grid, and pricing developments in target markets; maintain internal trackers on auctions, subsidies, and permitting timelines.
  • ESG & impact analytics: Support sustainability KPI definition, data collection, and impact narratives for investments; coordinate inputs for internal/external reporting (e.g., responsible investment frameworks).
  • Exit readiness & asset disposal: Map potential buyer universe, support vendor due diligence, prepare information materials, and contribute to valuation ranges and deal positioning.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration: Facilitate smooth handoffs between investment, finance, and operations; foster constructive teamwork and accountability across the deal cycle.
  • Process discipline & innovation: Apply a disciplined approach to risk management while proposing innovative solutions and structures that enhance returns in an evolving market.
Requirements
  • 1‑3 years experience in a similar role in renewable infrastructure related market.
  • Strong competencies in financial modelling and due diligence processes; good understanding of project finance structures and financing mechanisms, including debt, mezzanine and equity financing; developing project execution and operations management skills.
  • Knowledge of one or more core technologies in the target portfolio in the European Market.
  • Strategic thinking skills and strong commercial acumen.
  • Dedication and reliability, ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other professionals.
  • Fluent in English and competent in Italian.
