Axelera AI in Florence is seeking a motivated 6-month Intern Lab Technician to join the hardware team, focusing on electrical characterization and test bench setup for AIPU boards.

You will work with engineers, perform measurements, contribute to board layout, and help keep the lab organized, gaining hands-on R&D experience in AI hardware.

Position Overview

We are looking for a motivated 6-months Intern Lab Technician to join our hardware team supporting the development of AIPU (AI Processing Unit) boards. You will work closely with hardware and test engineers, contributing to electrical characterization, test bench setup, and ancillary card design activities, while also helping keep the lab organized and running smoothly.

This is a great opportunity for a technical diploma holder (ITS/Perito) looking to gain hands-on experience in a real R&D lab environment, working on cutting-edge AI hardware.

Key Responsibilities

• Electrical measurements: Perform voltage, current, power, signal integrity, and timing measurements on AIPU boards and related hardware using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, DAQ systems, etc.)

• Test bench definition and setup: Support the design, assembly, and configuration of test benches for board bring-up and validation activities

• Board performance characterization: Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing performance data to validate board behavior against specifications

• Ancillary card schematic entry and layout: Contribute to the design of small ancillary/support boards, including schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium Designer / KiCad)

• Lab management: Help maintain lab equipment, ensure calibration schedules are respected, and keep the workspace organized and safe

• Inventory tracking: Track components, boards, and equipment inventory, keeping records up to date and flagging reorder needs

Requirements

Education

Technical diploma (ITS or Perito Elettronico/Elettrotecnico) or equivalent

Technical Skills

• Familiarity with basic electrical/electronic measurement principles and lab instrumentation
• Exposure to schematic capture and PCB layout tools, ideally Altium Designer and/or KiCad
• Basic understanding of digital/analog electronics
• Familiar with Linux OS and scripting languages
• Good analytical skills
• Self-organized, able to manage tasks independently
• Precise and accurate, with strong attention to detail
• Good team player, comfortable collaborating with engineers across disciplines
• English speaking (spoken and written); Italian is a plus but not required

Location

Work from our Axelera AI office in Florence (Italy). The role requires on-site lab presence.

We do not offer new visa/work permit sponsorship for this opportunity in Italy at this time.
