Job summary

Design Consulting GmbH seeks an engineer to support failure analysis, issue resolution and project planning for high‑voltage electric powertrain systems in the automotive sector near Bologna, Italy, with occasional short business trips.

You will investigate field‑returned components, coordinate corrective actions with engineering, manufacturing, quality and suppliers, and develop FMEAs and risk assessments to ensure timely, cost‑effective system integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Automotive engineering or related field.
• Experience in automotive quality, reliability, product engineering or field claim management.
• Knowledge of HV batteries, inverters and eDrive systems.
• Experience with structured problem solving (8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys, FMEA).
• Willingness to travel for occasional business trips.
• Fluent Italian and English; German is a plus.

Location: Near Bologna, Italy, with availability for occasional short business trips.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate field-returned components and analyse quality claims to identify recurring failures and root causes.
• Coordinate corrective actions with engineering, manufacturing, quality, aftersales and suppliers.
• Prepare product FMEAs and support technical risk assessments.
• Develop and maintain project plans for eDrive and HV battery systems.
• Monitor milestones, deliverables, KPIs, schedules and cost targets.
• Track engineering changes and assess their impact on timing, costs and system integration.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience in a similar role within automotive quality, reliability, product engineering or field claim management.
• Knowledge of HV batteries, inverters and electric motors/eDrive systems.
• Experience in failure investigation and structured problem-solving methods: 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys and FMEA.
• Mandatory PES/PAV electrical safety training.
• Strong project planning skills using MS Project, cPlace or equivalent tools.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence and Agile methodologies.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and suppliers.
• Fluent Italian and English; German is a plus.
