Within Leonardo's Space Division, e-GEOS, an ASI (20%) and Telespazio (80%) company, is one of the leading international operators in the Earth Observation and geospatial information sector and offers a unique portfolio of application services. We're expanding our engineering capabilities around cloud-native geospatial platforms and Earth Observation (EO) services. We are looking for a Geospatial Platform Engineer to help design, develop and operate scalable software systems that enable discovery, access, processing and integration of geospatial and EO data across cloud and hybrid environments. Within the "Chief Technological Innovation Office" organizational unit at the Rome office we are looking for a resource to cover the position of Geospatial Platform Engineer This role contributes to the development of APIs, data services, geospatial catalogues and user-facing applications, while supporting the deployment and operation of services on modern cloud-native infrastructure. You will work closely with senior architects, software engineers, scientists and external partners to translate business and technical requirements into reliable, interoperable and production-ready solutions. You will join a multidisciplinary engineering team and progressively take ownership of platform components, architecture decisions and integration activities as your experience grows. This is an early-career position with a clear growth path toward technical ownership of geospatial platform architecture and cloud-native service development

What you'll do
  • Support activites of the Commercial User Terminal (CUT) as an operational platform for EO acquisition planning, Ground Segment interfaces, status management and decision traceability.
  • Evolve and integrate existing platforms such as SEonSE, AWARE, MapCy, AgriGeo, brAInt and CUT within the modular GIC architecture.
  • Develop reusable platform services, APIs and integration components while preserving each product's domain-specific capabilities.
  • Apply open geospatial standards, including STAC and OGC APIs, to build interoperable catalogue, search and data-access capabilities.
  • Work with modern cloud-native geospatial formats and tooling, including COG, Zarr, GDAL/rasterio and Xarray.
  • Build and integrate REST APIs, backend services and data processing components following established software engineering practices.
  • Explore and prototype automation opportunities, including AI-assisted and agent-based solutions supporting data curation, operational workflows, testing and documentation.
  • Contribute to user-facing capabilities with a focus on usability, including API-first services, notebook-based workflows and interactive geospatial applications.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of data ingestion, transformation and integration workflows across multiple systems and providers.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing processes and software delivery workflows.
  • Troubleshoot performance, configuration and integration issues across platform components with support from senior team members.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and technical suppliers on integration activities, technical reviews and delivery milestones.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, software design specifications, requirements analyses and operational procedures.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices in cloud-native geospatial platforms, workflow orchestration and AI-enabled automation.
