Job summary

Bystronic Group in Italy is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to install, commission and start up laser cutting, bending and automation solutions across Italy and Europe. Based in Italy, you will join our European Installation Team, travelling extensively to customer sites, delivering on-site installation, training and aftercare to ensure customers are up and running quickly.

You should be comfortable staying away from home for extended periods.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification or degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Experience with installation, commissioning, maintenance or field service.
• Experience with CNC/PLC controlled equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission and hand over machines at customer sites.
• Support laser cutting, bending and automation tech across projects.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues during installs.
• Train customers on operation, safety and maintenance.
• Document installation and service reports in CRM.

What you will be doing

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our Italian team. Based in Italy, you will support the installation, commissioning and start-up of Bystronic’s latest laser cutting, bending and automation technologies across Italy and Europe.

You will become part of our wider European Installation Team, with installation projects coordinated by our team based in Poland. The focus is on staying close to the installation from start to finish, ensuring our customers are successfully up and running before moving on to your next project.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Installing, commissioning and handing over Bystronic machines and solutions at customer sites
• Working across laser cutting, bending and automation technology, depending on your experience and expertise
• Supporting customer production ramp-up following installation
• Assembling and working with electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues during installation and commissioning
• Performing CNC/PLC diagnostics, adjustments, software updates and testing
• Carrying out machine modifications, updates and retrofits where required
• Setting up and integrating machine software and systems
• Training customers on machine operation, safety and maintenance
• Providing technical advice and support throughout the installation
• Completing installation documentation, service reports and customer information within our CRM systems
• Working closely with colleagues across our European installation, service and technical support teams
• Sharing technical knowledge and supporting the development of other engineers

There will be significant travel as part of the role. While you will support installations within Italy, you will also work across other European countries depending on your expertise and business requirements. Installation projects can require you stay away from home for extended periods, potentially up to three weeks at a time.

Your education & experience

• Technical qualification, apprenticeship, college qualification or degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field
• Strong experience within installation, commissioning, maintenance or field service engineering
• Experience working with complex industrial machinery or manufacturing equipment
• Good understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
• Experience with CNC/PLC-controlled equipment
• Experience diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues
• Valid driving licence

• A customer-focused approach and confidence working directly with customers on-site
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of an installation
• Comfortable working across different locations, countries and customer environments
• Ability to remain calm and solution-focused when things do not go to plan
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Willingness to continuously develop your technical knowledge
• Flexibility to travel extensively across Europe and spend extended periods away from home
• Commitment to completing installations safely, efficiently and to the required standard
• Very good command of English and Italian
