Leonardo is seeking an Expert-Senior AI Engineer to lead development of computer vision and time series models, with deployment on edge devices and integration into complex product ecosystems. The role emphasizes mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous learning.

The candidate should have 4–10 years of AI experience, strong Python/C++ skills, and experience with PyTorch, ONNX, and TensorRT. English proficiency is required; Italian is a plus.

Role Purpose:

To lead and provide expertise in the areas of computer vision and time series analysis, agentic AI and the whole AI spectrum. The role ensures the design and implementation of cutting-edge models that align with company objectives and integrates seamlessly into broader product ecosystems.

Key Accountabilities:

Model Development & Implementation:

Design, develop, and implement state-of-the-art computer vision and time series analysis models, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.

Integration & Deployment:

Ensure that the developed models are optimized and ready for deployment in various environments, particularly on edge devices.

Innovation & Knowledge Upkeep:

Stay updated with the latest methodologies in machine learning, AI, and data science to keep the company at the forefront of technological advancements.

Main Activities:

• Designing and testing AI models and AI Agents in real world and challenging conditions.
• Participate on European founded projects.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand needs and integrate AI based solutions.
• Ensuring scalability, robustness, and efficiency of models for deployment.
• Continual learning and application of the latest in the field to our operational challenges.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Mathematics, Physics, Robotics or related fields. Ph.D is a plus.

Level of Experience:

• Expert-Senior level with [4-10 years] of professional experience in AI.
• Proven track record of leading or mentoring junior team members will be a plus.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in computer vision, time series analysis and AI.
• Demonstrable expertise in edge devices deployment.
• Python Libraries: Pytorch, ONNX, TensorRT.
• Experience in C, C++, Rust, Go is a plus.
• Experience in LaTeX is a plus.
• Experience in MLOps is a plus.
• Version control Git (mandatory).
• Experience with Docker/Singularity.
• Knowledge of the aeronautical world and deployment on aeronautical systems are considered a strong plus.
• Experience in Optimization and Operational Research is a plus.

Languages:

• English: Full professional proficiency
• Italian will be a plus

THE SELECTION PROCESS

How does the selection process work?

Following the application collection phase, the CVs that best match the required qualifications will be evaluated and shortlisted.

Selected candidates will take part in an introductory interview with the Human Resources team, focusing on motivation and aptitude, followed by an in-depth technical interview with the relevant Business function.

At the end of the process, all candidates will receive feedback, regardless of whether the outcome is positive or negative.
