JD Logistics in Milan seeks a data-driven transport professional to establish and run the 24/7 dispatch and routing operation, ensuring cost-efficient, reliable middle-mile execution across the region.

You will lead the dispatchers and routing analysts, optimize real-time scheduling, coordinate carrier movements, and resolve bottlenecks to maintain smooth operations on the Milan network.

Competenze

• Greenfield launch experience in a fast-paced transport control tower or dispatch desk.
• Experience with express parcel networks, e-commerce, or major freight forwarders is preferred.
• Professional fluency in English and Italian is mandatory to manage local carriers and coordinate with HQ.

Context of the Position

As part of our strategic international expansion, JD Logistics is establishing its core infrastructure within the Italian market. This is a greenfield deployment phase, which requires our founding leadership team to manage high operational fluidity, establish local processes from the ground up, and translate centralized global capabilities into localized execution.

This position is designed for an agile, data-driven transport professional who will take control of our real-time dispatch desk, ensuring that every vehicle movement across our Milan network is optimized for cost, timing, and capacity from Day One.

The Mission & Core Scope

• The Mission: Establish, lead, and run the 24/7 transportation dispatch and routing operation, ensuring seamless middle-mile execution between ports, the main fulfillment centers, and last-mile delivery stations.
• The Scope: You will directly manage the dispatching team and routing analysts, oversee real-time scheduling, coordinate carrier departures/arrivals, and solve immediate transit bottlenecks across the Milan regional network.

Crucial Expectations & Performance Targets

To provide a clear understanding of the accountability required, the successful candidate will be evaluated on the following key metrics during the initial 6 to 12 months:

• Dispatch Desk Architecture: Set up the real-time routing, tracking, and communication protocols for the dispatch team, turning high-level transport plans into flawless daily execution.
• Carrier Departure & SLA Compliance: Maintain a near-perfect On-Time Departure (OTD) and On-Time Arrival (OTA) rate for all linehauls and inbound shipments, mitigating tracking gaps immediately.
• Cost & Capacity Optimization: Maximize vehicle cube utilization and route efficiency, minimizing empty miles and managing spot-market carrier requests effectively under tight budget limits.
• Real-Time Exception Management: Establish clear escalation pathways to instantly handle transit disruptions (e.g., driver delays, vehicle breakdowns, road closures), keeping all downstream operations fully informed.

Position Requirements

• Greenfield Launch Expertise: You must have a verified background working within a fast-paced transport control tower or dispatch desk launch environment, ideally for an express parcel network, e-commerce giant, or major freight forwarder.
• Technical Systems Mastery: Strong, hands‑on experience working with Transport Management Systems (TMS), real-time GPS tracking tools, and dynamic routing software.
• Language Proficiency: Professional fluency in English and Italian is mandatory to manage local carriers, direct dispatchers, and coordinate technical requirements with global HQ. Knowledge of Mandarin is a strong corporate asset.
• Operational Flexibility: High adaptability regarding shift rotations, including night or early morning coverage, which is essential to stabilizing a round-the-clock transport network launch.
