Job summary

Atlante is seeking a Data Engineer to lead the Data Platform & AI team in Milan. You will redesign the data platform to serve both people and AI agents, establishing end-to-end architecture, standards and governance for data production, modeling and consumption.

You will drive a semantic layer, data products and a knowledge management spine connecting docs, catalogs and business glossary to AI systems, while building robust pipelines on Spark, SQL, Trino and Athena.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software development in Python or equivalent in production
• Hands-on agentic software development: coding agents and spec-driven development
• Solid knowledge of lakehouse technologies: Spark, SQL, Trino, Athena
• Good knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and infrastructure as code
• Strong understanding of data platform design, data modeling and semantic layers
• Familiarity with MCP, RAG and knowledge management patterns for AI systems
• Ownership mindset: make architectural decisions and stand by them

Responsibilities

• Review current data architecture end-to-end, map weaknesses and technical debt, and define target architecture and roadmap
• Design and build the agentic harness architecture for AI agents to access and act on Atlante’s data with permissions and observability
• Own the semantic layer with shared definitions and metrics across BI, analytics and AI agents
• Set up knowledge management connecting documentation, data catalog and business glossary to AI systems
• Develop and operate reliable data pipelines on the lakehouse (Spark, SQL, Trino, Athena) with built-in testing and data quality
• Define data products with clear owners, contracts, SLAs and consumers
• Promote agentic development and review practices to keep outputs production-grade
• Spread data engineering standards across Atlante including modeling conventions, CI/CD and governance
• Stay updated with latest data and AI tech and bring valuable tools to the platform

We are looking for a Data Enginer to join our Data Platform & AI team!

Brief description of the role:

You are the technical point of reference for data engineering within the Data & AI team. You review Atlante’s data architecture and data platform end to end and lead their redesign, treating AI agents as first-class users and builders of the platform. You design the architecture that lets AI systems work on our data and knowledge, and you define the standards the whole company follows when it produces, models and consumes data.

Value creation:

You turn Atlante’s data platform into a foundation that people and AI agents can trust: governed, documented and semantically consistent. By making data discoverable and self-explanatory, you shorten the path from question to answer. You raise the engineering bar of the whole organization by setting how data is modeled, tested, shipped and owned.

Core Responsibilities:

• Review the current data architecture and data platform end to end, map weaknesses and technical debt, and define the target architecture and the roadmap to get there.


• Design and build the agentic harness architecture through which AI agents access, understand and act on Atlante’s data and knowledge, with clear permissions, evaluation and observability.


• Build and own the semantic layer, ensuring shared business definitions and metrics across BI, analytics and AI agents.


• Set up the knowledge management architecture that connects documentation, data catalog and business glossary to AI systems, including through MCP.


• Design, develop and operate reliable data pipelines on our lakehouse (Spark, SQL, Trino, Athena), with testing, data quality and monitoring built in from the start.


• Apply data product management, defining data products with clear owners, contracts, service levels and consumers.


• Promote agentic development as the team’s default way of building (coding agents, spec-driven development), with the review practices that keep the output production-grade.


• Define and spread data engineering standards across Atlante, including modeling conventions, CI/CD, documentation, access management and data governance.


• Stay abreast of the latest technologies in data and AI, testing them hands-on and bringing into the platform those that deliver real value.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of software development in Python, or equivalent experience in another language, with code running in production.


• Hands-on experience with agentic software development: coding agents (Claude Code or similar), spec-driven development, loop engineering.


• Solid knowledge of lakehouse technologies and query engines: Spark, SQL, Trino, Amazon Athena.


• Good knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and of infrastructure as code.


• Strong understanding of data platform design, data modeling, semantic layers and data product management.


• Familiarity with MCP, RAG and knowledge management patterns for AI systems.


• Strong curiosity and drive: you go beyond what is asked, and you stay on top of the latest technologies, especially in AI applied to data platforms.


• Ownership mindset: you take architectural decisions, defend them with arguments, and own their results.


• Ability to act as a reference for others: you explain choices clearly, write things down, and make the people around you better engineers.
