Job Description:
The opportunity

HyFlex is Hitachi Energy’s hybrid power solution combining hydrogen fuel cells and battery storage to provide a cleaner alternative to conventional diesel generation where grid access is limited or unavailable. We are looking for a Business Development Specialist to help build market awareness, support customer engagement at an early stage and convert interest into qualified opportunities. You will work at the intersection of business development, product management, sales and the operational organization. The role combines customer-facing activities with structured analysis and the hands‑on creation of the materials, tools and documentation needed to scale a new business. This role suits someone who enjoys opening doors, articulating value propositions and supporting business scale-up.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Build awareness of HyFlex across priority markets, customer segments and sales channels through targeted outreach, events and presentations.
  • Support early customer engagement by researching accounts, identifying stakeholders and preparing discovery conversations around operational needs and decarbonization goals.
  • Develop qualified leads and manage opportunity pipelines through structured follow-up and effective use of CRM tools.
  • Support sales teams with account strategies, customer messaging and opportunity plans focused on relevant use cases and customer decision criteria.
  • Build customer business cases and total-cost-of-ownership models using load profiles, utilization, energy costs, deployment scenarios and emissions targets.
  • Create effective business development collateral, including presentations, case studies, value propositions, segment briefs and reference stories.
  • Conduct market, customer and competitor research and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Develop the templates, guidance and documentation needed to support sales and scale the offering.
  • Coordinate inputs across product management, engineering, tendering, service, marketing and external partners to ensure customer‑facing information is accurate and consistent.
  • Use feedback from customer engagements and sales pursuits to improve tools, messages and processes.
  • Demonstrate safety and integrity by taking responsibility for your work and supporting colleagues, customers and the business.
Your background
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, sustainability, energy or a related field.
  • Experience in business development, sales, account management, marketing or commercial operations.
  • Proven ability to research target accounts, generate leads and develop focused outreach strategies.
  • Confidence engaging customers and senior stakeholders, understanding their needs and translating discussions into clear next steps.
  • Strong analytical and Excel skills, with an interest in business‑case modelling and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Experience creating persuasive presentations and practical sales collateral.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an entrepreneurial environment where processes and materials are still evolving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English. Italian or another European language is an advantage.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy, hydrogen, distributed power or other emerging clean‑technology markets.
  • Willingness to develop the technical understanding needed to communicate the value of an integrated power solution. An engineering background is beneficial but not essential.
What will help you succeed

Commercial curiosity: You seek to understand each customer’s business, decision process and underlying needs.

Structured execution: You turn research and leads into clear action plans and reliable follow‑up.

Analytical storytelling: You translate data and technical inputs into credible business cases and persuasive presentations.

Collaborative ownership: You work effectively across functions, involve experts when needed and take responsibility for results.

Adaptability: You test new approaches, learn from feedback and improve processes as the business develops.

Practical creativity: You use digital and AI‑enabled tools to improve quality and efficiency while applying sound judgment.

What you will gain
  • Hands‑on experience developing a new clean‑energy business and bringing a pioneering product to market.
  • Broad exposure to business development, sales, product management, sales and marketing.
  • Customer engagement and the opportunity to contribute to business‑development activities with visible commercial impact.
  • Practical experience in business‑case modelling, market analysis, value‑proposition development and sales enablement.
  • Ownership of defined workstreams, supported by experienced colleagues and cross‑functional experts.
  • An international network and deeper knowledge of grid and power quality systems.
