Clear. in Milan is seeking a BMS Commissioning Engineer to lead the testing and handover of building management systems on large-scale data centre projects.

You will coordinate with project managers, controls engineers and client teams to ensure systems are fully tested and integrated to project specifications. The role requires hands-on commissioning of DDC/PLC based controls, BACnet/Modbus networks, and a strong focus on safety and documentation.

BMS Commissioning Engineer

A growing building automation and controls company is expanding its presence across Europe and is looking for an experienced BMS Commissioning Engineer to join its team in Milan.

The role will focus on the commissioning, testing and handover of BMS and building automation systems across large-scale data centre projects.

You will work closely with project managers, controls engineers, electrical and mechanical contractors, and client teams to ensure BMS systems are fully tested, integrated and operating in line with project specifications and critical infrastructure requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commissioning engineer with a strong BMS/controls background who wants to work on technically challenging mission-critical projects and develop their career within a growing international organisation.

Responsibilities

• Commission BMS and building automation systems across large-scale data centre projects.
• Carry out point-to-point testing, functional testing and system commissioning.
• Test and commission HVAC control systems including AHUs, chillers, pumps, CRAC/CRAH units and associated equipment.
• Configure and test BMS controllers, I/O, sensors, actuators and field devices.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, controls and communication issues.
• Complete functional performance testing in accordance with project specifications.
• Support integrated systems testing (IST) and client witnessing activities.
• Work with electrical and mechanical teams to coordinate commissioning activities.
• Interface with PLCs, HVAC equipment and other third-party systems.
• Test communications and integrations using protocols such as BACnet and Modbus.
• Review BMS graphics, alarms, trends, sequences and control strategies.
• Produce commissioning records, test sheets and technical documentation.
• Identify defects and ensure issues are resolved prior to project handover.
• Liaise directly with clients, consultants, contractors and project management teams.
• Support final project handover and provide technical assistance during the defects period.
• Ensure all commissioning activities are completed safely and in accordance with project procedures.

Desired Experience

• Proven experience as a BMS Commissioning Engineer, BMS Controls Engineer or Controls Commissioning Engineer.
• Strong understanding of BMS and HVAC control systems.
• Experience commissioning DDC, PLC or BMS control systems.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with HVAC plant and mechanical services.
• Good understanding of control panels, sensors, actuators and field devices.
• Experience with BACnet, Modbus or similar communication protocols.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, control schematics and technical documentation.
• Data centre / critical infrastructure experience is highly desirable.
• Experience working on large commercial, industrial or mission-critical projects.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients and contractors.
• Willingness to travel to data centre sites across Italy and potentially wider Europe. xysqume
