UNICC in Brindisi, Italy, is seeking an Application Support Technician for a 6-month on-site engagement. The role provides Tier-2 IT support, application maintenance, and database administration across MSSQL and open-source databases. The consultant will work under DSM Team Lead supervision, participate in deployments, and may be on-call with 24x7 standby as required. Teleworking up to one day per week is permitted.

Qualifications

Specialist or expert-level proficiency in application maintenance and IT support.
Experience providing Tier-2 support for business applications or enterprise tools.
Database administration experience with MSSQL and open source databases.
Very good English skills, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

Background information:

This is technician position for the support of the applications under the portfolio of Digital Solution Managed Services Section (DSM), within UNICC’s Digital Solutions Division, located in Brindisi, Italy and Valencia, Spain. This support is required to fill the vacant consultant position and due to the increased amount of work requested by the customer.

Required Profile:

The consultant is expected to bring specialist or expert-level proficiency in application maintenance and general IT support, preferably with experience providing Tier-2 support for business applications, enterprise tools or database administration. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the DSM Team Lead, and in close collaboration with other DSM members and units.

Scope of Work / Duties of Consultant:

Provide day-to-day support and maintenance of applications and tools for the UNICC and partners;
Perform database administration tasks of MSSQL and open source databases;
Resolve in a timely manner Tier-2 application issues and elevate Tier-3 issues to Designated focal points;
Assist in the evaluation, configuration and installation of new releases in accordance with established configuration management standards;
Assist in applications structural changes required during system upgrades;
Assist in the deployment of tools and in the implementation of processes to assist in operational support;
Assist in responding to application-related queries from end users in remote locations;
Facilitate knowledge transfer to Tier-1 and deliver end-user training sessions on the application functionality.
Assist in the development and in the updating of software applications related documentation, including technical documentation and system reports, attend operational and other meetings;
Provide standby and on-call 24×7 support, and work in shifts when requested;
Provide other ad hoc support either within your team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full-time basis upon request from the senior management;
Perform other duties, as required.

Required Technical Skills:

The resource MUST have the following skills and experience:

Three to five years of experience in application maintenance and general IT support;
Good working knowledge of client/server applications in a Windows/Linux environment;
Good working knowledge of Database Management;
Very good knowledge of English (both written and verbal) is required.
High school diploma

The resource SHOULD have the following skills and experience:

At least three years of experience administering Microsoft Windows server, SQL Server databases and .NET applications.
Good working knowledge of MySQL, RedHat Linux server, and Drupal applications
Good working knowledge of global Active Directory Architecture, AWS and Azure
Familiarity with United Nations policy framework for International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) or compliant operational concepts and processes
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable

Required Soft Skills:

Ability to grasp complex concepts, logical and analytical approach to solving problems
Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team of diverse skills
Willingness to improve knowledge and skills and learn new technologies

Desirable certifications:

Certifications and advanced training in Microsoft technologies
Certification and familiarity with ITIL concepts and processes

Teleworking:

Up to one day of teleworking per week is permitted.

On-call:

The consultant will participate in an on-call rotation, expected to be approximately one week per month depending on team size. Standby support and shift work may also be required.
