Job description

Algorithm Engineer - Computer Vision, Deep Learning & Embedded AI

An applied research and technology transfer centre specialising in industrial computer vision, deep learning and artificial intelligence is looking for an Algorithm Engineer to develop and optimise advanced algorithms and neural networks for real-world industrial applications.

Working closely with leading technology companies, R&D teams and research groups, the organisation transforms state-of-the-art research into reliable prototypes, reusable software tools and deployable products.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer vision, deep learning and C/C++ software development, alongside experience optimising algorithms across CPU, GPU and embedded platforms. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge industrial AI applications spanning visual inspection, quality control, 3D vision, intelligent sensing, embedded AI and multimodal systems.

The key skills required for the Algorithm Engineer:

  • MSc with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of computer vision algorithms and neural networks.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming, with the ability to write clean, maintainable and high-performance code.
  • Experience implementing deep learning algorithms and translating research into reliable industrial applications.
  • Experience optimising software across CPU, GPU and embedded computing platforms.
  • Knowledge of GPU architecture and programming, particularly CUDA and TensorRT.
  • Experience with debugging, profiling, Git, package management tools and containers.
  • Familiarity with Linux or Windows development environments.
  • Experience interfacing with cameras and sensors and acquiring data using C/C++ is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of PyTorch, GPU training and MLOps best practices is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Italian and/or German is an advantage.
  • Creative, proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving.

You will join an applied research team working alongside scientists and industrial R&D teams to implement state-of-the-art algorithms, develop core software modules and optimise AI applications for modern hardware platforms. The role offers the opportunity to influence technology roadmaps and contribute to the transfer of advanced computer vision and AI research into real industrial products.

This is a full-time, permanent, on-site position based in Bressanone, in Italy's South Tyrol region, with a flexible work-from-home policy of one day per week.
