Job summary

Starion invites an AI Infrastructure Engineer to join the ESA Frascati team onsite in Italy, helping design and operate secure, scalable AI infrastructure. You will work with Azure, on-premises environments, and NVIDIA GPU platforms to deliver enterprise-grade AI services and MLOps capabilities.

You will build GPU-powered environments, maintain Linux-based systems, and manage IaC and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring performance, reliability, and security across the platform.

Qualifications

  • University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in this field.
  • Strong experience designing, deploying, and supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure, networking, and cloud-native services within complex enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with GPU-enabled platforms, including NVIDIA technologies, AI workloads, and the deployment of high-performance computing solutions.
  • Advanced Linux administration skills, with proven experience managing, troubleshooting, and optimising Docker-based and Kubernetes-driven production environments.
  • Experience deploying and operating large language models (LLMs) using technologies such as vLLM , Hugging Face TGI, Ollama, or similar frameworks, together with knowledge of vector databases and AI-powered search solutions.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools, such as Terraform, Bicep, or Ansible, alongside experience developing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
  • A strong understanding of security best practices, including identity and access management, secrets management, infrastructure hardening, monitoring, logging, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Based onsite at ESA’s office in Frascati, Italy, you will help build the resilient infrastructure that enables advanced AI services, modern data platforms, and digital innovation across the organisation.

From GPU powered environments and Kubernetes platforms to automation, monitoring, and security, your work will play a vital role in delivering reliable, scalable, and future ready capabilities.

Tasks and Activities
  • Design, deploy, and operate secure, scalable AI infrastructure across Azure and on-premises environments, supporting the delivery of enterprise-grade AI services and MLOps capabilities.
  • Build, optimise, and maintain GPU-powered platforms for AI workloads and large language model (LLM) deployment, ensuring high performance, reliability, and seamless service delivery through secure APIs.
  • Administer and enhance Linux-based environments, Docker containers, Kubernetes clusters, vector databases, and AI search services, driving efficiency, resilience, and innovation across the platform.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions and automated CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, enabling streamlined deployment, governance, and operational excellence.
  • Monitor platform performance, security, availability, and cost efficiency, proactively troubleshooting infrastructure, networking, storage, and GPU-related challenges to ensure a robust and dependable service.
  • Implement and manage backup, disaster recovery, patching, and security controls, while producing and maintaining clear technical documentation to support long-term platform sustainability.
What We’re Looking For

Ideally, you will have;

  • University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in this field

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and responsibilities within the role. For positions based in Italy, employment terms and classification will be determined in accordance with the applicable CCNL framework, with the corresponding level assigned based on qualifications, professional experience, and role requirements.

The advertised salary and level range is intended based on the requirements as advertised here.
