Job summary

YRGMERF seeks a Surveillance Officer to support the JSICBS project in Guwahati and peri-urban areas. You will coordinate with state health authorities, analyse disease patterns, and help implement data-driven strategies.

Ideal candidates hold a Master’s in Public Health or related field with 5 years of experience in NUHM, urban health, and disease surveillance. Local understanding of Assam health systems is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in Public Health or Epidemiology or Biostatistics.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in NUHM, Urban Health Project, Disease Surveillance, One Health Activities, NVBP.
  • Preference for local candidates who understand Assam health systems.
  • Experience with coordinating across municipal corporations and peri-urban areas.

Responsibilities

  • Support project activities in designated municipal corporations and peri-urban areas.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and report to State Manager in Guwahati.
  • Assist in designing tools for data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Analyze urban and peri-urban disease surveillance to identify patterns and risk factors.
  • Document project activities related to One Health and outbreak preparedness.

YRGMERFis anticipating a project to strengthen the Urban Ecosystem Against FutureDisease Threats by implementing a framework for urban-peri-urban coordination.This project if commissioned will require a team of below positions to supportthe coordination, implementation and monitoring of several components.

Key Responsibilities

The Surveillance Officer will beresponsible for supporting the project activities in the designated municipalcorporation and peri-urban areas, coordination with stakeholders. Will reportto State Manager based at Guwahati. Will work closely with other team members.

Project Implementation Support

  • Will be responsible to ensure that theproposed activities are considering current disease patterns as well asrequirements of the State and Disease health department.
  • Ensures that the staff are well trainedon use of data for program implementation and documentation.
  • Supports in designing various tools forsecondary information collection, analysis and use in the project.

Urban and Peri-urban CoordinationSupport

  • Analyses the disease surveillance systemsin place both the urban and peri-urban areas of the designated projectgeographies. What are the contributing factors and their association withdisease frequency, severity and spill over. Prepare reports on these patternsincluding the factors associated with previous outbreaks.
  • Supports in preparing report on thepreparedness of health facilities, staff capacity to address any spill-over oroutbreaks in future. What are the key resources that can be established withinthe project resources to provide on the job skilling.
  • Supports in preparation of otherstakeholders who could contribute in early reporting using existing IDSP toolsincluding those in private sector. Helps in preparation of a landscaping reporton current practices and how those can be aligned with One Health activities.
  • Supports in documentation of variousproject activities related to One Health, outbreak preparedness by discussingwith the stakeholders and participants.
  • Helps in understanding the peri-urbanvulnerability pattern to disease outbreak in the designated area andfacilitates preparation of a city action plan that guides several activitiesunder the project as well as through other resources.
  • Helps in understanding current practicesin Info-demic management, how those practices have been successful in managingbetter surveillance and management of outbreaks in both urban and peri-urbanzones.

Innovations

  • Ensure that government approved toolsand techniques are scaled up and widely practiced.
  • Provides support in implementinginnovations in the project

  • Undertake any other responsibilitiesassigned by the supervisor in support of project objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s in Public Health orEpidemiology or Bio-statistics with minimum 5 years' experience in NUHM, Urban Health Project,Disease Surveillance, One Health Activities, National Vector Borne ControlProgram. Preference will be given to local candidates who understands and haveworked in Karnataka Health Systems.
