Job summary

E4 Software Services Pvt Ltd. Bengaluru is seeking an API Test Engineer to design and execute test plans for REST APIs, ensuring coverage of positive/negative paths, boundary conditions, and end-to-end workflows. You will validate authentication, authorization, fields, error handling, and data integrity across services and databases.

You will also develop SQL validation scripts, participate in CI/CD, and collaborate with developers and DB teams to triage defects and verify fixes.

Job description

• Analyze business requirements, API specifications, data models, and mapping documents to identify test scenarios, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
• Create test plans, test cases, and test data covering positive and negative paths, boundary conditions, business rules, and end-to-end workflows.
• Execute smoke, functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests; maintain reusable API collections and SQL validation scripts.
• Test APIs using Postman, Bruno, or equivalent tools; validate HTTP methods, status codes, headers, request and response payloads, and JSON schemas.
• Validate authentication, authorization, required fields, invalid inputs, error responses, pagination, filtering, and sorting against agreed API specifications.
• Test integration workflows across services and databases, including retries, duplicate requests, and idempotency where applicable; verify the resulting data changes.
• Write SQL queries using joins, subqueries, and SQL functions to validate records, calculations, and business rules against expected results.
• Reconcile data between source and target systems; identify missing, duplicate, incorrect, or inconsistent records and verify transformation rules.
• Investigate failures using API responses, logs, and database records; report defects with clear evidence, support triage, and retest fixes.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong understanding of SDLC, STLC, test design techniques, defect management, and Agile Scrum delivery.
• Hands-on experience testing REST APIs using Postman, Bruno, or equivalent tools, with a clear understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, JSON, and API contracts.
• Experience validating authentication and authorization, including token-based access and role-based permissions.
• Perform API load, stress, spike, and endurance testing to assess response times, throughput, and stability.
• Create realistic test scenarios based on expected user traffic, request volumes, and business workflows.
• Develop and execute performance test scripts using JMeter, k6, Gatling, or equivalent tools.
• Monitor response times, error rates, CPU, memory, and database performance to identify bottlenecks.
• Analyze results against agreed performance targets and share findings with developers.
• Work with development and database teams to resolve performance issues and retest improvements.
• Strong SQL skills, including joins, subqueries, grouping, and aggregate functions, with hands-on experience in a relational database such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL,Snowflake,Databricks or MySQL.
• Experience testing stored procedures, ETL processes, data migrations, or data warehouse workflows is a must-have skill.
• Ability to validate data accuracy, referential integrity, constraints, and transaction behavior, and investigate data issues across connected systems.
• Ability to turn business requirements and data mappings into clear test cases, expected results, and meaningful test coverage.
• Experience using Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent tools for test tracking, defect reporting, and communicating progress.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Knowledge of finance, investments, portfolio management, OCIO applications, trading, cash management, compliance, or capital markets is preferred.
• Exposure to API Test automation, running tests in CI/CD pipelines is an added advantage.
